Massive splinter!

After having what I believed to be a splinter in my thumb for over 2 weeks, this popped out this afternoon!
I managed to acquire said splinter whilst coming down a staircase at speed on a recent cruise, holding onto a wooden handrail. It bled profusely and hurt like hell! I had to see the ships doctor (£120 😳) who said they couldn’t see anything in the wound and reported it to guest services. A nice security man came with me to find the handrail - there’s millions on the ship!- and wrote a report.
I’ve been in pain for a weeks, the end of my thumb is numb and very painful. It’s surprising how many things you do whereby the end of your thumb is needed.
I’ve been trying to claim back the medical cost, but it’s proving challenging just to get through to P+O.
Anyway, here it is…

Good grief, how did the doctor not see you had half the hand rail stuck in the end of your thumb?

To be fair, it was very deep - I couldn’t see it in there but could FEEL it!!!

So did it literally just pop out?? That must have been so odd! But such a relief I’m sure

I had to scrape the thumb surface as the hole had closed over, so there was no way for the splinter to work its way out. Once I’d reopened the entry hole, I squeezed my them from the knuckle and it literally shot to the surface! I’m keeping it as a holiday souvenir 😂

That’s amazing. I mean apart from the pain and palaver 😂

Keep trying to get that £120 repaid and compensated - I wouldn't expect splintery handrails on a cruise liner! And that ship's doctor sounds really incompetent.

Don't be surprised if, having popped your mega splinter out, it shrinks drastically over the next few days. It's taken on a lot of fluids in your thumb and as it dries out, it'll be the size it was when it went in. I remember getting a rose thorn embedded in my scalp as a child. It sort of skinned over and was sore for a week, until my mum removed it. The thing was MASSIVE! and then, most disappointingly, reverted to its natural size. Grin
