Is this a wart?

Appeared on son's hand about a month ago but this last week it's grown quite a bit and is causing him pain and he says it's itchy.

We did try an over the counter treatment but that didn't work

With warts, do we just let them do their own thing?

It looks just like a verucca but do they only affect feet?

Is it painful? Could spread to other areas. Does he have any verucca on his feet?

You can get stuff to freeze it off online or in boots

He hadn't any verrucas, it is painful and often bleeds too.

We tried to freeze it, we also tried some sort of gel and filing it down

I'd do an econsult for that, it might be something else and you've got a good clear picture there.

We used this for my son when he was 3, to get rid of a wart on the palm of his hand.
The instructions said to rub it in, but he couldn't tolerate that as the wart itself was hurting.
Instead I'd put a blob on the wart, cover it with a plaster and wrap white medical tape fully around his hand to keep the plaster in place. I did this morning and night for about 3 weeks. The wart gradually softened, and disappeared.
He's been left with the tiniest scar on his palm (it hasn't grown back 3 years later). The treatment didn't cause him any discomfort, or leave a wound.
