Posted on children’s health and someone suggested I post
here as may be a tonsil stone?
Symptoms in child: cough, new very sore throat, low
fever, sore head and tummy, no tonsils as they were removed last year. Looked inside mouth and saw this. No idea
about tonsil stones - she won’t really open her mouth let alone let me poke it, but does this sound likely to you?

Yes, that looks like a tonsil stone.

I've just had my tonsils removed and I did not know we could still get tonsil stones?! Oh god nooooo

dancinginthedark123 · 30/11/2024 22:56

Never heard of them until I posted on children’s health asking if
it looked like strep! How can it be a tonsil stone with no
tonsils
🤯 Does It need treated with antibiotics? Is it causing fever /
sore
tummy? Assuming Gp trip?

Even if the tonsils have been removed, this is only the surface part of the tonsils - they are also buried on the structure of the throat.
If you have one, it doesn't mean you have an infection.

Was it tonsillectomy or tonsillotomy? The latter removes 'most' of the tonsil and is often preferred to a full removal as less risk of bleeding.

I guess you might still be able to get stones if so, but likewise, it could just be a pocket of pus due to an infection.

So it was an intracapsular tonsillectomy where they shave them back I think?
