Psoriasis in ears

This is what comes out of my ears daily. Incredibly satisfying grabbing hold of the bit at the entrance to my ear canal and pulling. You feel every bit of it detaching.

I guess it's a mixture of skin and ear wax. It's hard and layered. This is the result of one ear. I've still got the other one to do today 🤩

The only thing I enjoy about this awful skin condition.

Oh wow. How incredibly satisfying.

I believe I have eczema or very dry wax in my ears and recently purchased an ear camera on the back of a thread on here. It was delightful to be able to see what was clogging up my ears.

Do you find it insatiably itchy...?

Wow! I've just bought one I've just to set it up. Looks clearer than I had hoped. Could be my favourite toy 😂

Yes my ears are incredibly itchy. All. The. Time. That's the downside.

I bet you had fun removing all that wax!

Looking again your ears do actually look rather inflamed. Maybe worth having the doc/nurse have a look the next time you are at the surgery.

Yes they are inflamed and you're absolutely right, I do need to get them checked out. But one day they will be totally fine, the next day very itchy. Do you find this? I use olive oil which helps a lot. Healthier photo attached!

Let me know how you get on with the new ear camera! Grin

Watching with interest, in my experience GPs are completely uninterested in maddeningly itchy ears.

I use a random combination of Swimear spray, Otinova ear drops (from Amazon, never seen them in the pharmacy) and an occasional smear of 1% hydrocortisone cream (available over the counter as a bite/sting relief).

minerva7 · 28/07/2024 20:17

@youmovedwell I found olive oil made my ears itchier!

@ElleneAsanto does that work for you? I'd be interested to try.

I read somewhere that itchy ears can be a menopause symptom 🤷‍♀️

I have this too but there is rarely ever any wax and just sheets of dry skin.

minerva7 · 29/07/2024 03:07

Is there satisfying tugging needed to remove it @RosaBaby2?

I'm glad I've found this thread! I get an incredibly itchy ear [ only the one ] and thought it was just me.
It doesn't happen all the time, but when it starts it lasts around a week. Does anyone get some pain with it? I get pain at the top part of my ear [ not inside the ear ], which goes once the itching dies down. I try not to scratch as this makes it worse, but that is really hard.

I use a combination of Earol for itchy ears, hydrocortisone cream and moisturiser, They help, but the itching drives me mad!

Occasionally. I can get carried away and scrape it all off with a bic lid but then I pay for it later! Ouch!

SidekickSylvia · 29/07/2024 14:30

Does anyone else use Fucibet Cream? I use it for a couple of days, it completely clears it up for about a fortnight, then starts up again.

Me too. It's unbearably itchy. I have otomaze ear drops on repeat prescription. They help a lot.

No but I have some I will give that a try! The contents of ear number two...

Looks like a smallish cornflake 😂 - sorry for the rubbish photos a photographer I am not.

My daughter ended up with it so badly it caused an ear infection that closed her ear canal and she was admitted to hospital aged 7. We now do daily olive oil

MissyGirlie · 29/07/2024 16:38

I have dermatitis in my ears which I can control with coconut oil if I can be bothered, but it feels horribly slimy when I put it in.

I almost took a pic of one of my ears' recent offerings: solidified, mahogany-coloured goo, rather than the more typical mini-cornflakes. I can sometimes hear a slight rustling when I manage to extract a particularly long piece of dried-up muck.

Me, I stick with the traditional Kirby grip! Not too often, as I’ve learned from experience it just seems to aggravate it.

But sometimes, when it feels like you’ve got insects crawling about in there - it’s irresistible.

CherriesBerriesAndBananas · 30/07/2024 23:55

Can you hear it peel away too? That’s my favourite part of getting a scab or anything in my ear. Listening to it peel away 😍

Brokenfurnitureandroses · 31/07/2024 00:02

Micro-suctioning is amazing for clogged up ears. And they take a little video of before and after for you to see the difference. Excess ear wax is genetic. Oh and yes can get worse during menopause, I think because the ear gets drier.

Yes I have this, otitis externa and I peel flakes of skin off. I also have incredibly small ear canals which doesn't help and have to have microsuction regularly.

I sympathise Lou, I had otitis externa for about 20 years and one day it just disappeared. I kinda miss it for the skin peeling 🫣
