Driving somewhere yesterday morning I itched the top of my thigh through my jeans and it was really sore but, what with concentrating on the road through the rain, running late due to roadworks, worrying about the scan I was going to have etc, I forgot all about it.

Got home and changed clothes into something comfortable, not remembering about the sore area (god knows why, I’m not usually so absentminded!!) so didn’t bother looking at it. In fact, I completely forgot about it until later in the evening when, once again, I went to itch the same area and found it was sore still - checked my leg and found a red area with an open centre plus what looked like the skin from a blister that had burst (first picture - excuse the clean tea towel, I put it there as I couldn’t get a photo without it looking like my bum because it’s where my thigh curves round to sit against the other one). I put a dry dressing over it and went off to bed.

This morning it’s still really sore and has bled a bit onto the dressing so I took it off to see what it’s like. It’s very sore, there was a small bit of what looked like green pus on the dressing where the hole is on my leg and this is what my leg looks like; it bled a bit after I took the dressing off too. Have put another dressing on it today as it’s really sore round the broken skin, there is a small black dot in the middle which I think is a spot of blood.

Shpuld I just keep it covered in the hope it clears up or should I consider the local MIU if it doesn’t improve?

Looks like a spider bite?

I hope not - while I’ve no problems with spiders, we don’t tend to have many in our house and I’d love to know how one would manage to bite me there as I’m always wearing either trousers or pyjamas

Well they can get in your clothes before you out them on etc, particularly if clothes are left on the floor. It looks like a puncture wound. Keep it clean and I would keep a close eye for infection or any raise in temperature etc.

More likely a bite I think because if you have knocked something sharp you’d have felt it.

It sounds like it’s healing, so keep it clean and covered.

If it gets hot, the redness spreads or it shows any other sign of infection then get it seen.

Spider bite for sure, my brother had the same and it didn't go well, have it checked out asap.

Keep an eye on it. I was going to suggest bite as well. Slight possibility of an ingrown hair that rubbed off on your clothes.

Are The clothes you were wearing at first still unwashed? Wondering if there’s a squashed spider inside those trousers…!

No, was a pair of jeans that have been through the wash and tumble dryer; as they’re dark indigo in colour, went in wash inside out with other jeans and very dark clothes (was 1st wash and didn’t want too much dye to leech out).

Ooh, don’t like the sound of that, hope he’s ok now - will definitely keep an eye on it although, at the moment, it’s got a dressing on it; I had a nasty horsefly bite about 25 years ago that I reacted badly to, to the extent that I was referred to tissue viability team and was tested for diabetes (came back negative back then and recent tests also negative for it) because it ulcerated and took so long to heal.

Looks like a boil that has burst to me OP. I'd get it checked out.
