DS12 Tonsil stone

DS12 came to me tonight to ask did he have a tonsil stone (I had no idea he even knew what one was).

His throat is red, and it looks like a tonsil stone, and the tonsil isn't swollen, the one on the other side is swollen. He's a good lad (I suspect a sporner in the making), and we had a dig at it with a cotton bud, but nothing giving. Do I leave it be, or get in touch with the dentist in the morning? Sorry no pic. I'll try to get one in the morning. I've sprayed his throat with difflam, no temp, or sickness yet - we're pros at tonsillitis 🤣

He's also going on holiday with exH on Saturday so can't really leave it too long, and dentist closes at lunchtime Friday.

I don’t think dentists remove tonsil stones. I would leave it alone and continue with the spray unless he develops a temperature and/or the swollen side starts to increase in size. If you’re worried I’d ring the gp in the morning.

I found salt water gargles were good when I had a tonsil stone. Gargled twice a day and then I tried poking it with a cottonbud afterwards. It came out on day 3 or 4 I think.

No photo, sorry! I can't get a clear pic.

So now it looks like there's a second one, and the flesh around them has gotten darker.

We tried to dislodge them with the waterpik (much hilarity involved, as he was covered in water, along with the walls, ceiling, floor, mirror and myself 🤣)

DS has been very quiet today, he says it doesn't hurt, but it feels weird.

I called the dentist and they've said it's GP. I will call the Dr tomorrow. I'd usually wait and see, but he's going on holiday on Saturday with exH for a week, and he's a useless parent. He'd need DS to have a limb hanging off pumping blood everywhere before doing anything (he brought him home 12 hours early previously because DS had food poisoning and he couldn't cope, nor could the wife......hence he's an ex!

In my opinion it could be strep throat, as he has the furry tongue too, but no temp or rash yet.

Final update! Called Dr surgery at 8, given an appointment for 9, had to wake up the almost teenager, he wasn't happy.

GP says definitely WAS a tonsil stone, DS must've dislodged it this morning. Antibiotics prescribed as a just in case whilst DS is away with exH. (My GP surgery are fantastic and completely understanding and I realise how lucky we are).

Apologies for no pictures 😞
