De-roofed!! Urgh

I tend to react badly to insect bites. On Saturday I was stung by a tiny honey bee (one of my own, I'm a beekeeper and it was my first sting)
Well over the weekend it went wild, I ended up in a&e this morning, it was de-roofed, IV and oral antibiotics, instructions to change dressing every 4 hours.
Miraculously it doesn't hurt at all.
Here you go

OMG, that looks horrible. Much sympathy!

Is it an allergic reaction or is the bee venom that toxic in the location of the wound?

countvoncount · 31/07/2023 19:12

Allergic reaction, hospital were concerned with the swelling, but it was a plain old honey bee
If my kids were smaller I'd tell them
I fought a python

Omg! Looks awful, good to hear you’re ok

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 31/07/2023 19:16

Omg that last photo. Hope it doesn't get a nasty infection :o

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 31/07/2023 19:17

Your large toenail is very long. Sorry to go off topic :D

Ponderingwindow · 31/07/2023 19:31

I’m hoping beekeeping is a hobby, not a profession. I know stings aren’t common, but it’s an allergy that escalates. Did they give you epipens?

Lmao!!

Caaarrrl · 31/07/2023 19:47

Those photos are glorious!

countvoncount · 31/07/2023 20:36

Just a hobby, have been advised to carry an epipen by the hospital after todays visit
No idea who my toenails look long, in real life they're just normal 😂

That looks horrendous, I hope it doesn't scar. Do you think it might be an idea to consider a different hobby?

countvoncount · 02/08/2023 07:17

Oddly enough, it's not put me off!
Will be a miracle if it doesn't scar, strangest thing though, it's not sore, like not at all, changing dressings even (that's not a good thing I know)

<deletes 'Beekeeping' off the list of future hobbies>

countvoncount · 06/08/2023 15:02

To give a mini update.... I have 2 days worth of oral antibiotics left, and it's started to heal really well!

Still no pain at all

OP posts:
WildCherryBlossom · 06/08/2023 21:18

Goodness gracious! I can't believe that's not hurting 😨

LunaLoveFood · 06/08/2023 21:22

I wonder if there is no pain because the infection has damaged the nerve endings have been damaged (a bit like if you have a deep burn)

Rainyrainyrainy · 06/08/2023 21:26

jeeez you’ve got the eye of Sauron peering out of your leg Shock
best wishes for the healing tho

Rosecoffeecup · 07/08/2023 15:22

Bloody hell

Glad thats not painful

CornedBeef451 · 09/08/2023 08:26

@countvoncount how is it now? Will it start hurting as it heals?

countvoncount · 09/08/2023 10:14

@CornedBeef451 it's healed so well!!
I am shocked at how gross it was to what it's like this morning.
Kept it covered, changed dressing every day, it scabbed over, then the scab fell off yesterday, this is it now, I'm quite proud of my super healing powers!
