Elbow redness

Hi sporners,

I have a really sore elbow. Looking closely, I can see a white 'head' on this, but it's hard and not very obvious (you can just about see it in the photo I think). Also, there's no way I could attempt to squeeze it, as it's painful even moving my elbow! Any ideas what to do about this? Have been applying fucidin, but to no avail! The worst bit is how sore it is! Even brushing against it is painful! Help fellow sporners! Wwyd?!

Probably not the right answer, but if that was mine, I'd have to find a way to pop it somehow! Maybe soak it in some warm water first and see if that will soften it up?

HeartOrHeadDecision · 12/06/2023 08:47

Antibiotics. Call your gp. Most likely it is bursitis. And no, don't squeeze.

Covidwoes · 12/06/2023 09:10

@Sagaris I've tried that, but it is honestly so sore I can't do it! It hurts to even brush fabric against it.

@HeartOrHeadDecision I was wondering if I should call the GP. Will try them this morning, although not overly hopeful!

Take a pen and draw a circle around redness to see whether it is growing.
Good luck!

Covidwoes · 12/06/2023 10:18

@HeartOrHeadDecision good idea! No GP appts today, so been advised to call back tomorrow.

Got a GP appt today! Hopefully the doctor will at least suggest some better painkillers, as it's so sore!

Hope you're OK OP update please

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 13/06/2023 22:28

Glad you got an appt, hope all is ok.

Covidwoes · 14/06/2023 06:20

Haha @Crustsamongus it's always disappointing when an OP doesn't come back and update!
The appointment was a phone appointment (I was asked to send a photo), but he then said I needed to be seen in person! Earliest he could squeeze me in was first thing this morning. I had a temp yesterday, but luckily it has burned/sweated itself out overnight. Here's an updated photo. Absolutely can't go anywhere near it before anyone suggests squeezing. It's agony!

Whoaaaa that's impressive. I hope it gets better OP.

GoodChat · 14/06/2023 06:35

He'll probably drain that for you as it looks like there's a yellow head underneath the skin on the left hand side now

JuneOsborne · 14/06/2023 06:36

Ouch. Hoping you get a sooner doctor who deals with it in the surgery. The relief will be immense.

JuneOsborne · 14/06/2023 06:37

Sporner. Not sooner. Bloody autocorrect.

Garman · 14/06/2023 06:44

Bursitis?

Covidwoes · 14/06/2023 07:40

@Garman he did suggest that from seeing the photo, but the infected kind! If he does want to drain it, I'm going to have to refrain from screeching as it's so painful! I have to get to work asap afterwards (teacher), so hopefully it'll be a quick appointment!

OP posts:
Garman · 14/06/2023 07:54

Yeah my husband had the infected bursitis type, he was in agony with it for a week. Self employed so still had to go to work but just about able to.

Covidwoes · 14/06/2023 07:57

Did he have to take antibiotics @Garman? Luckily I feel better today after sweating the fever out overnight, and being a teacher I won't need my elbow much haha!

OP posts:
Garman · 14/06/2023 08:04

Yes he was on antibiotics, anti inflammatories and steroids, 19 tablets a day. His was much redder, much more swollen and extended a lot further though.

Whataretheodds · 14/06/2023 08:06

DO NOT squeeze. I say that with difficulty as a Sporner, but my relative had bursitis. It was v painful and required hospital treatment

Covidwoes · 14/06/2023 08:33

@Garman poor man, that sounds so so painful!
@Whataretheodds there's no way I could squeeze it. I'm not even tempted!
Will update later with the GP's plan of action!

OP posts:
Covidwoes · 14/06/2023 12:25

He said it's 'olecranon bursitis' and that's it's infected. Been prescribed flucloxacillin.

OP posts:
CornedBeef451 · 14/06/2023 16:26

Glad you got treatment, hope it's less painful soon!

Covidwoes · 14/06/2023 21:49

Thanks everyone! It is starting to peel now, which I'm hoping is a good sign!

Thought I'd update this thread as it's satisfying in Sporners seeing how things turn out! This is it on day 2 of antibiotics.
