Tried soaking in salt water and applying magnesium sulphate paste... think I'm going to have to call the GP today as it's been over a week! Thoughts?

Ouch! I'm sure we've had one very similar on here before, that eventually erupted out by the nail.

Same!

I had one similar and it needed a course of antibiotics. Eventually looked like it was ready to go and erupted with a light squeeze... super satisfying.

WingingIt101 · 06/02/2023 07:15

Please call the gp! I had this by my little finger and it needed antibiotics. The nail is badly damaged and I'm having to wear a plaster over it for months to try and prevent it dropping off!!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 06/02/2023 07:16

How often are you soaking it, 3x a day? Covering it at night with drawing ointment?

sashh · 06/02/2023 07:16

That looks like a whitlow, I get them on my toes.

This is going to sound strange but I 'pop' them with an old stud earing - instant pain relief and pus relief.

Don't ask me why I did this once but I did and it worked so I did it the next time.

Remember to throw the earing away.

I saw two different pharmacists last week (Wednesday and Friday) for advice. GP phone lines open at 8:30 so I'll call then.

I've been soaking several times a day (challenging with two small children!) and covering at night. I considered popping it but it's really tender and don't think I've got the strength of mind to go through with it!

It may need lancing..... I've had it done a couple of times.

slytherinabout · 06/02/2023 08:51

Appointment at 2:30. I'll update later 🙂

She lifted the nail bed, but no pus, just blood. I have a week of antibiotics 😩

Horrid! Hope the antibiotics work

WhoWants2Know · 09/02/2023 20:54

Better now?

slytherinabout · 10/02/2023 07:47

Swelling has gone down and lovely but of pus this morning! 😁

So I finished the antibiotics on Monday but my thumb is still swollen. Just got up with my DS and now I'm awake, it's burning so much I can't get back to sleep 🤬 I think I'll have to call again in the morning.

Yes...

In the olden days, we used to bathe it in TCP. Is that still a thing?

slytherinabout · 15/02/2023 07:09

Not sure. I've been bathing in salt water 🤷‍♀️
