Sinus rinse

I have had the cold and cough virus that half the population has and I am so tired from not sleeping due to a stuffy nose.

I ordered a saline rinse bottle and just had my first attempt. Oh my god the relief!

It wasn't quite as impressive as some I have seen online but it was pretty bloody satisfying!

Love them, have you got the Neil Med one?
don’t believe their claim that you need to replace it after so many uses just put it in the microwave for a good boil to disinfect, I’ve had mine for years
they are brilliant and I also don’t buy the Neil Med sachets i just have a bag of neti salt I keep in the airing cupboard

WeAreOnTheRoadToNowhere · 29/12/2022 15:00

I make my own mix. 500ml of boiled water, 1/2 teaspoon of fine sea salt and I add 1/2 teaspoon each of sugar and bicarb to soften the water

WhatWouldHopperDo · 29/12/2022 15:00

Yes that's the one I have. Thanks for the tips. It came with 60 sachets but I'll bear in mind not to reorder them and get some neti salt.

I’ve read sea salt isn’t a good idea due to the algae ? Again that could be a a con but the neti salt is Himalayan

Malariahilaria · 29/12/2022 15:04

Oooh I love my netti bottle! Tiktok are currently doing netti purge videos and its as fascinating as it is repulsive. The relief from flushing through is immense though. Every home should have one imho!

TwoMonthsOff · 29/12/2022 15:04

60 should last a while
have fun ! It makes you feel so clean but have you bent over and poured water out of your nose yet !

The Sterimar ones are seasalt

TwoMonthsOff · 29/12/2022 15:53

@AriettyHomily
Neil Med I think make these claims so you will buy their refills like them saying the bottle should be replaced - it’s plastic it will last for ever
they charge loads for their salt sachets

bagheera92 · 29/12/2022 16:00

I have a sinus every morning and night , got my dh doing them now to haha. I can feel the pressure in my forehead and bridge of my nose subsiding when all the snot comes out . Very satisfying!

TwoMonthsOff · 29/12/2022 16:02

I’m going to do one now I’m inspired and also bunged up hoping to see some green strings also

glasshole · 29/12/2022 16:07

I've got chronic sinusitis and have the pleasure of rinsing my sinuses twice daily. I had surgery to try and open my sinus cavity up but it didn't really work. I seem to get really big crusty bogies in my sinus and they are so big they can't get through my septum to escape when I blow. So I've got a bogey hook and literally have to fish the buggers out. It's disgusting and my favourite thing to do 😂😁.

Toddlerteaplease · 29/12/2022 16:19

One of the best things about being a nurse is suctioning Snot. Especially if you use a Yankeur to do it. It's amazing 🤣🤣

TwoMonthsOff · 29/12/2022 17:51

Just done the deed -love that post rinse ear crackling when you blow your nose

namechange485732 · 29/12/2022 20:47

namechange485732 · 29/12/2022 21:39

@TwoMonthsOff thank you

ScarlettDarling · 29/12/2022 21:44

I’ve thought about trying this so many times but hate the feeling of getting water up my nose. Does it hurt?

TwoMonthsOff · 29/12/2022 21:49

no it doesn’t hurt at all, I think the salt and the warm water takes the sting off, it’s not like when you get pool water up there, it’s really soothing

BrutusMcDogface · 29/12/2022 21:50

@ScarlettDarling that’s my question, too!

bagheera92 · 29/12/2022 21:55

I've found it stings if you use cold boiled water and the granules . But no aging at all if it's warm boiled with granules.

TwoMonthsOff · 29/12/2022 21:58

It’s got to be warm water

wandawaves · 29/12/2022 22:01

Nope. I'm still scarred after using it one day and my sinuses must have been so blocked up, that the salty water came out of my mouth! So gross.

What the hell have I just watched!!

Justhereforaibu1 · 29/12/2022 22:34

I had my sinuses done earlier this year and after day 3 I had to do the rinse very often, can't remember how often now it was at least once a day. Omg it was amazing. Massive clots that looked like liver 😂

Justhereforaibu1 · 29/12/2022 22:37

You're welcome
