Hello, I get boils some times on my inner groin area when I'm very run down. I've been sick recently and sure enough one has cropped up. I've never had one on my stomach before so I've never seen them this close and I'm freaking myself out. It's not sore, I put mag sulph paste and a dressing overnight and tried to burst it this morning but it just bled and I think I bruised the area around it by poking and prodding. I marked the area of redness around it but it's the same shape as the dressing so I'm guessing the skin is irritated there by the adhesive.

My question is, do I just put something on it, cover it and leave it alone? Or should I try to drain it? Or see someone? Usually I'd whack a bit of Vicks and a plaster over it and forget about it but because I can see this one I'm freaking at the thought of MRSA or blood infections. It's along the line of a stretch mark so that's the lump under it.

I suspect you might need a course of antibiotics for that one.

I get boils like that quite frequently (I have a condition called hidradenitis superativa) more often than not they come up and go again within a week without intervention. If you're concerned, ask the gp to take a look and they may well give you antibiotics. Is the raised area below it from the dressing or the possibility of a second boil?

I'd take that to see the practice nurse.

The raised area is part of a stretch mark that I caught with that adhesive, it wasn't red until I started using the dressing.

There's an out of hours service I could ring but I feel a bit silly calling for this 😬

I'd bathe with warm salt water and turn a hot compress, cover with Savlon and a non lint dressing and see how it looks after a couple of days. Repeat compresses 2x a day minimum.

I wanted to update in case anyone else has a similar one. I called the GP just to ask over the phone and she asked me to come in, said I did indeed need antibiotics and put me on a list for a dermatology referral when I mentioned I'd had recurring boils for years. Thank you for the replies
