My burst eardrum

So I wish I could have posted pics of the pus and gunk but really it was just a blur of rubbish (and stains on the pillow). 12 days in and it's still a mess (deafness + washing machine noises). It's only a small hole and the light reflex is still there.
Wish me well and I will try to post recovery pics (may take some weeks).

Oh I love this. I know it's wrong though. I had a perforated ear drum last year and so wanted a photo.

I always had very poorly ears as a child and the thing I realised when this was SOO SOO painful was how sorry I felt for my four year old self

Oh OP, nothing worse than ear pain too! What happened? Will it just heal up?

You have my sincerest heartfelt sympathies because the pain from those is unreal. I always had the notion that a burst eardrum meant your hearing would never recover in that ear though, my ENT specialist told me so I believed him!

I feel for you! Reminds me of years ago when I woke up with earache so I decided to lie a hot water bottle with my ear pressed on it for a bit (recommended by Dr Google!) I felt a really strange sensation and there were strange sounds so I thought it must be the wax moving....after 5 minutes I had the worst pain!! Felt like I'd been shot through my ear. Saw my GP the next day who said I had an infection in my ear that had perforated my ear drum. Lost my hearing in that ear for a few months, The pain lessened but the gunk that was expelled from my ear was amazing x

Apparently it will likely heal but I have to have a strict no water policy and "NO POKING" which is tricky because it is as itchy as hell and the gunk is still coming out and v stinky

Ouch, you have my sympathy. I had a horrible ear infection not long ago and the pain was awful though it got a bit better when my ear drum burst and all the gunk came out. Photo of my ear and pillowcase gunk.

This happened to me once too a few years ago. I was astonished about how much stuff can come out of what I assumed was a small place. Much like pp’s photo. I soaked through countless Cotten wool balls and pillow cases for about a week. Where the hell it kept coming from I’ll never know.

Instant relief once it burst though, and a weird sensation of deafness and stuff oozing out.

the good news OP is that I’m now 100% fine, so I’m sure you will be too.

You all have my sympathy. I had too many ear infections when I was 5 & they went to put grommets in when they took out my tonsils, there was no glue in there just lots of scarring & an already perforated eardrum!

I’ll always remember being around 4 & laying my head on my Mum’s lap when she was in bed to have ear drops put in. And being smacked for lying because I said I didn’t like the taste of them.

My left eardrum had a large perforation & the medicine was going down through my Eustachian tube onto my tongue 🙁

I’m now as deaf as a door post in my left ear, with lots of scarring so it doesn’t vibrate properly & a late in life discovered deformed Eustachian tube! And the tinnitus drives me insane hatstand lol! And I always get ear infections after a respiratory infection. Gah!

Hoping your ear gets better soon!

(The last Boxing Day before the pandemic, we all went to Mum’s for her usual cold meats & handmade chips. My sister & her boyfriend were there, with her sitting between his legs on the floor. They were messing around - probably fuelled by ample sherry - and he clapped his hands over her ears.

We all heard an audible pop.

”I’ve gone deaf, oh god, I’ve gone deaf!” She squealed.

One trip to minor injuries to see the on call GP that night - who commented her right eardrum was now ‘flapping in the breeze’ - & a course of antibiotics later, & the rest of the week’s festivities continued).
