What is wrong with this insect bite?!

I have a couple of insect bites but this one is particularly nasty and seems to have developed blisters all around it. Any ideas what might have caused this? I'm using hydrocortisone cream and taking antihistamines but it just seems to be continually dripping yellow liquid! This is 3 days old now. Any advice appreciated!

A reaction to bites can include a lot of swelling, beyond the small bump most people get. When the area becomes swollen, fluid can come up under the top layers of skin and form a blister. This reaction is natural.

Blisters

If you develop blisters after being bitten by an insect, don't burst them because they may become infected.

Blisters don't usually cause pain unless they rupture (burst) and expose the new skin underneath. If possible, use an adhesive bandage (plaster) to protect the blistered area.

I get this from horsefly bites. It will heal up. You can put a light gauze dressing over it if necessary.

Take regular antihistamine and put some hydrocortisone cream on. I had a bite earlier this year looked like a bit ‘weepy’ like this but was much redder. After a few days was loads better without antibiotics.

I get this quite often. Just slap some Savlon on, take an anti-histamine, and it should just dry up after a few days.

Just read your post properly... sorry.... I find that hydrocortisone actually inflames my bites, can't use it at all! Maybe try just antiseptic instead??

Thank you all for the advice, hopefully in a couple of days it will have gone 🙂

Looks like a blandford fly bites. Are you in the south of England? Get some hydrocolloid dressings, they work wonders, but don't put anything on the bites (cream, antiseptic etc) and carry on with antihistamine tablets.

@Catnuzzle I was in the south of England when I was bitten, are they common down there?
