Horsefly or spider bite

No photos I'm afraid as it's now under a mountain of iodine and hydrocolloid dressings.

Last Friday I was stung, we're not sure by what, we'd seen horseflies earlier in the day, but I don't think the actual sting hurt enough iyswim.

Sat/ sun I had a growing, hot lump that was close to golf ball size by Sunday night. Monday I felt dreadful so called GP, spoke to triage nurse and started on erythromycin. Tuesday I couldn't move my shoulder, felt very sick and was running a fever. Went to minor injuries where they swabbed, squeezed and dressed it. And gave me Doxycycline and codeine. Had it checked out with a view to going to hospital for iv antibiotics but nurse decided to just clean and redress yesterday

It's much smaller now - marble size but I feel dreadful. Not fluey anymore but sick and so drained. I'm back at the nurse on Tuesday but have to clean and redress it myself tomorrow. I am slightly nervous about what I'm going to find, the doctor and both nurses I've seen have all started with "well that's really nasty, no wonder you feel dreadful"

I'm not entirely sure why I'm posting, handholds maybe, but I felt you would all appreciate it.

Pictures at re-dressing stage will be much appreciated. 😁

Hope you're feeling better soon, those antibiotics should make you a lot more comfortable.

Pre cleaning and redressing this evening. It's left a hole!

Looks like a horsefly to me. Dh had five on his leg last year ,needed anti biotics and a hospital trip. He too Piriton to help with the itching and pain , the liquid stuff and took maximum dose. They're evil things.

A dermatologist said I had horsefly bite - as I had a wound that didn’t heal for two months.

it didn’t leave a hole but it was similar to yours

leaving a good plaster on is what eventually led it to heal - it was an absolute pain at the time

Oil of oregano applied topically did wonders for my hot painful swollen horsefly bites, when every other type of pharmacy insect bite etc cream, anti-septic etc everything did nothing. You do smell strongly like pizza for a while but that was a bonus.
