Tonsil stones?

Any ideas ? I’ve had this for close to a month with no change and no symptoms really. Was told by a walk in doc in the 3 seconds she looked it was tonsil stones. They don’t budge at all. I’ve also been gargling multiple times a day. Can’t see my doctor until end of month. Do you guys think it is tonsil stones, cyst or something different?
Any advice is appreciated!

If it’s not budging it could be a mucus cyst. Harmless. Often due to dry mouth / sjorgens syndrome.

My tonsil stones don't look like that. I keep them at bay by gargling with Peroxyl.

Do you think the white spots on the other side could be the start of another cyst or tonsil stones ? Sorry this is all new to me I’ve never had tonsil stones that i know of at least and from searching they definitely seem way easier to remove then this stuff is. If it’s a mucus cyst do they just go away ?

I had something very similar removed from my tonsil under GA earlier this year. I could have left it alone as the surgeon was confident it was nothing to worry about but he decided to remove it as I’d recently lost my husband to cancer and he felt it would give me peace of mind. Mine was a tonsillar retention cyst and it was benign. Always best to get it checked though.

Have you had a gentle poke with a cotton bud to see if you can dislodge it? That might work if it’s a tonsil stone.

LeeHarper5 sorry about your husband 😔 but thank you for replying I am thinking it’s more of a cyst as well I was able to get a closer picture. Were they able to tell it was a cyst just at your gp or did you have to go to a specialist? Sorry for the questions it’s just been making me very worried especially with there being spots on the other side I immediately think the worst. And I can’t see my doctor until end of month.

It was a nurse practitioner I saw and she wasn’t entirely sure what it was so she referred me to the ENT clinic at my local hospital. She did do the referral as a two week pathway referral purely as a precaution because it was a lump.

I got the ENT appointment for the following week and they put a camera on a very fine tube up my nose and had a good look around the back of my mouth and throat (I hadn’t expected that but it wasn’t painful). He said straight away it was a retention cyst and they can sometimes get bigger but are usually nothing to worry about.
Two weeks later it was removed along with some of the tonsil. I had a bit of a sore throat for a few days and had to wait two weeks for the histology report to say it was all fine.

I kept checking the lump for a month hoping it would just burst or disappear before making an appointment with my GP surgery. Are you able to send the photo to the surgery and ask if somebody could review it for you sooner?

That sounds stressful but all turned out ok in the end ! I hope my experience is the same!

Well I noticed it along with the spots on the other side almost a month ago exactly, I watched it for a week thinking it would go away since I’ve had no symptoms of anything but my health anxiety clicked on so I tried a walk in appointment and after sitting there for half hour the nurse came out and said the doctor wouldn’t see me because it was my throat and Covid is really bad where I live right now so I’d have to go get tested but I don’t meet the criteria to get tested because I have no symptoms. So I tried a virtual appointment that doctor said it was probably something viral and to wait out, still no change I finally was able to get a walk in with a different doctor about 2 weeks ago who said it was probably a tonsil stone. All this time I’ve had my appointment booked with my gp because I know she will actually take the time to look into it. So needless to say it’s been stressful especially with anything in your throat you immediately think cancer.
Thank you for the info ! I do think it’s a cyst I’m just nervous about the other spots but I’m hoping because I have no other symptoms and no lumps on my neck or anything that it will be ok fingers crossed!!

I think it’s a cyst too but obviously I’m not medically trained. It’s only natural to worry but hopefully in 2 weeks time you’ll know what it is. Please let us know what your GP says.

That looks like a tonsil stone to me - does your breath smell bad?

When I get tonsil stones, I push them out with my fingers or a cotton bud. You can also try using your tongue to poke. If you have never done it before there are probably lots hiding under your tonsils too.

Ck189 · 17/10/2021 01:08

No my breath dosent stink. I’ve tried everything to remove it and it dosent budge unfortunately. I’ve been gargling with salt water and apple cider vinegar to with no luck. I was able to take a super close picture and think I see skin on top of the white but again I have no idea that’s why I’m now really thinking cyst between that and with none of them coming out.
Do you guys think the actual tonsil on that side seems weird with the shape of it? It hasn’t changed but unfortunately everything I see in there now I’m thinking the worst !
