Just got this out of baby’s ear

I know you aren’t meant to go digging around in babies ears but it was so full of wax, DS had been particularly upset today and kept a trying to scratch his ear. I flicked it out with some kitchen roll.

Can someone tell me if this is normal? DS is only 4 months and wax is huge and solid!

Babies are generally gross. I was carrying baby DS into nursery when I spotted a chunk of pickled bell pepper in his ear. Scooped it out and it wasn't pepper but an enormous flap of earwax. It was the best thing that's ever happened to me disgusting.

If your DS' ear is irritating him then it could be an ear infection. I'd take him to a pharmacist as a first stop.

Save it to make a posh candle.

Same thing with DD at around the same age. Was sitting in a cafe with her on my lap and whatever way she turned her head I spotted this huge chunk of wax in her ear. It was glorious!!

DD wasn’t bothered by it. If your baby still seems unsettled maybe get your DS checked out.

I have asked DD’s audiologist about this. She said that babies make a lot of wax and have tiny ear canals so the wax physically comes out in big chunks.

If he seems distressed by his ear then maybe he needs to see the doctor just as a precautionary measure

I had similar from my 4 month old last week, must admit I was shocked at the size of it!
