Fungal toe nail

Noticed I had slight yellowing in part of my nail a year ago. Bought fungal nail stuff and used daily. Got worse and worse. Now have the complete toe nail yellow and about 5 times as thick as it should be. Tried cutting it down but it’s a mess! Help! Do I need the whole nail removing?

Magrats, Nope, a degree is possible now at Smae. Your information is outdated.

Technically a collaboration. Would not be approved without Queen Madge Uni on board.

"At the HCPC's Education and Training Committee (ETC), held on the 16th of March 2021, the HCPC gave full approval to our BSc (Hons) Podiatry programme (to be run collaboratively with Queen Margaret University)."

From the SMAE website.

And for what its worth, I think the 'staged' degree course is a great thing as not everyone can take time out of their lives to do a 3 year degree in one hit - especially if they have kids etc. It doesn't detract from my original point though does it.

I've had this for years, tried loads of over the counter remedies and recently saw a podiatrist privately.

He tells me it's not a fungal infection at all but nail damage because of trauma caused by shoes. I need a heel lift, apparently. I remain unconvinced.

Dh tried everything including medication
What worked was neat tea tree oil rubbed on the nail daily!

@HermioneN

I cleared one of with neat tea tree oil... cut it really short and filed on the end and the surface so it could penetrate. It worked where fastidious treatment with other topical things just hadn't touched it. Hth.
Another one who used tea tree oil. Mine wasn’t as bad as the OPs sounds but was visible. I used the tea tree twice a day for what seemed like months until I was sure all the manky nail had grown out.

But do be careful with tea tree. I had a spot on my nose a few weeks ago, dabbed it with tea tree for a couple of days and was rewarded with an outbreak of hard little blisters. Went down after a day or so but I felt as though they were visible from space.

Terbinafine tablets worked well for me a 4 month course and it is almost non existent now. I had tried so many topical treatments and nothing worked.

Try taking vitamin D tablets (can buy in any supermarket). I have tried everything in the last 12 years to get rid of a toenail infection- terbinafine, topical ointments from over the counter, vicks vaporub, tea tree oil....none of them worked.

Currently 7 months pregnant and have found that the infection has almost completely grown out and new healthy nail is growing from the cuticle!! I can only assume it’s thanks to the Vitamin D that I have been taking daily as recommended in pregnancy. I haven’t changed anything else in my diet or lifestyle and had given up treating the nail ages ago.
