Is amputation the only option?

My poor finger is very painful...I've tried gently prodding it...produced some pus yesterday but it's not playing ball now. Is amputation the only option left?

I've been giving it salt baths but it's not really having an effect.

Ouchy Sad I had that when I was pregnant and when antibiotics didn’t touch it I had it lanced sans local anaesthetic, think I nearly crushed DH’s hand with my good hand!

You ne3d to lift the cuticle away. So soak in salt water, then run a toothpick or cocktail stick around the edge. You'll gently clean it, and open up a channel for the pus to escape. It will feel much better. It doesn't hurt.

Oooh. Soak it in a salt bath? Mag sulph?

I had one like that when we got married. My (very new) DH squeezed the life out of it in schipol airport whilst I tried not to scream. Cleared it up though Grin

When I've had these in the past I've soaked my finger in the hottest water I could stand and eventually it burst. If no better tomorrow it might need antibiotics.

BlueBirdGreenFence · 28/08/2020 22:27

As a serious nail biter I've had this a few times. I soak in hot salt water then lance when the pus has had time to be drawn to the surface.

RaggieDolls · 28/08/2020 22:27

DD has had this. Soaking in very hot, salty water for 15-20 minutes at a time throughout the day did the trick for her.

RaggieDolls · 28/08/2020 22:28

Just to add DD was a nail biter at the time.

This was my poor finger today. Now on antibiotics 4x a day for a week. Dr told me I had an very poorly finger' and said I had to go to A&E tomorrow if it wasn't any better. Thankfully it started draining earlier Envyso I'm spared a trip to hospital.

Wow, OP, that is some impressive green you're sporting!

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 01/09/2020 20:51

Ignore all medical experts, who will mutter darkly about infection and stuff like that. What do they know?

Instead, lance it and film it. You know we deserve it.

Fightthebear · 01/09/2020 20:53

Bloody ell that’s got a lot worse since you first posted.

Hope the antibiotics work asap.

Botherfreedays · 01/09/2020 21:02

Wow ShockShockShock

elvislives2012 · 01/09/2020 21:10

Looks to me like it needs a good poke whilst you're filming it

Dreeple · 01/09/2020 21:19

Worst case is you get it in your toes as well and they meet at your waist.

MingeofDeath · 08/09/2020 21:24

That looks bloody painful
