I have an insect bite on both ankles both have what looks like a head forming. I’m leaving well alone but do you reckon it is going to explode? I’m currently 3.5 days into a 7 day course of antibiotics. I couldn’t walk on it on Monday or Tuesday!

Oooh I'd squeeze that...

Ouchie OP, looks like a horse fly bite to me... Those critters are.evil and the bites often need antibiotics. I've "accidentally" knocked the tops off of some before. Some felt better afterwards, some went back to being very itchy and red...

@Mysa74 I swished away the flies as I felt them bite me and they were small. How big are horseflies do you reckon? Bluebottle size?

I’ve got antibiotics so they are improving. Although they look blistered today.

Depends where you are in the country but have a look into blandford fly. Little wee bitey bastards that love ankles. Took me weeks to get over an attack this summer and I’m usually last on the menu for bugs.

Draw round the red bit, it it spreads beyond the ink you might need antibiotics. Have you taken any antihistamines?

Mysa74 · 26/08/2020 11:06

@MyNameIsJane
Yes, about bluebottle sized. Stripey and a bit fluffy in comparison. They are very determined and can get angry. They slash your skin and drink blood.

Here you go, nasty bitey things

What’s the plan for the antibiotics have finished? I would take the top off and let it drain. Not medical advice blah blah Wink

MyNameIsJane · 26/08/2020 18:11

@Ellamiss Antibiotics are now finished. One remains a blister and one seems to have drained in its own. I’m too scared to pop it!
