Fucking traumatic blackhead

Blackhead-type lump on back, where I can't see it. Give it a squeeze.

Something comes out, but doesn't wipe away. I get a grip on it and give it a yank.

It doesn't want to come. Hm, maybe it isn't a blackhead, maybe it's a skin tag? Pull harder, it wasn't there a few days ago.

It comes off with a satisfying little pop feeling and I keep hold of it to have a look at it, this mystery squish.

And it crawls up my finger. It's a fucking tick. With its horrid little red legs all a-wiggling.

Ugh.

Eeeew

Do keep an eye on yourself though, tics carry Lyme disease. It causes a bullseye style rash and makes you feel unwell.

MiniMum97 · 19/09/2019 21:04

Did you get it all. Get someone to check the heads not left in. Getting off within 24hrs reduces the risk of Lyme.

You don't always get the bullseye rash so check a symptoms list and insist on the correct course of antibiotics if you think there is a chance you may be infected. Check the NICE guidelines for type of antibiotic and length of course. GPs have been known to get this wrong.

Oh, I got husband to check v carefully, ugh, ugh, and we're monitoring for Lyme, ugh. Just so traumatic I needed to share with the internet.

I hope you have booze.

Get antibiotics fast. This happened to me I ended up with Lyme disease. Tick was buried in my head. ConfusedDidn't have bulls eye thing. 4 years on it still flares up.

Cyw2018 · 20/09/2019 07:47

Ticks not removed within 24 hours significantly increases risk of Lyme disease, as does 'squeezing' them rather removing in the correct way (can inject stomach contents), so be super alert for any signs of Lyme disease. The classic bullseye rash isn't seen in all cases, so if you have any flu like symptoms in the next few weeks then you need to see your GP and insist on antibiotics.
