Possible Bartholin’s Cyst

I noticed a swelling between my outer and inner labia a couple of days ago. It got bigger (impressively big) and was really painful yesterday, like a cystic spot but huge. I could feel it when I was walking and sitting, it was agony to wipe properly after a wee.

I decided to bathe it in salt water after my shower today so got all prepared and it seems to have opened up a bit by itself. So I squeezed (obviously Grin) and some fluid came out. I bathed it and squeezed again and some more came out but it has not drained completely Sad.

It looks like a little hole on the cyst but I can’t squeeze anything else out. I still have a hard painful lump, it’s still really big. I’ve put some Sudocrem on now. What’s my next move?

GP or walk in centre. You will need antibiotics

DarkDarkNight · 10/09/2019 13:43

Really? I was hoping it would just go away on its own.

I had something similar years back that just popped and disappeared.

Yes you should get it looked at, it may need draining.

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 10/09/2019 13:48

Definitely get it looked at. Something like that in such an intimate spot is not worth taking risks over.

I had one once. Very painful. I sat on my bathroom floor with a mirror, got right under the hard bit and squeezed like fuck.

When it erupted it was glorious and as soon as it went the pain was gone.

This is probably very bad advice.

SpaceDinosaur · 10/09/2019 20:23

Nope @Jengnr it's the same choice I made and I still dream of it. It was glorious!!!

WeShouldOpenABar · 10/09/2019 20:57

I've had a few over the years I just lance them I've never had antibiotics

FFSDH · 10/09/2019 21:01

jengnr I did exactly the same and lived to tell the tale. I do not endorse this behaviour in others though. It was truly wonderful and when my life flashes before my eyes at the end of my life, I’m sure the memory of my fanny exploding on the bathroom floor aged 31 will be my final thought.

DarkDarkNight · 10/09/2019 23:45

Oh Jengnr you are tougher than me, I couldn’t squeeze it before it opened up, it hurt so much.

The thought of going to the GP about it brings me out in a cold sweat. I know they’ve seen it all before but I don’t think I could.

How’s it going OP? Has it popped yet?

I must say I find it really sad (if that is the right word) that you feel you can’t go to the GP with it. Is there no GP in the practice you would feel more comfortable with? Maybe the practice nurse? Hopefully it’s sorted itself out by now and you don’t need to go anymore, but I just strongly feel that everyone should be able to access the healthcare they need, and if embarrassment is the barrier then there must be something that the medical profession can do to reduce that.

I had a cyst last week. It was the size of a 10p piece. It was also agony. I pierced it and squeezed it. Lots of gunk came out and it's gone now.
