My boil has left a HOLE! (With pic)

Which is pretty grim!

Had a bit of a boil appear last week in the exact spot that a stupid broken bra wire was poking me. I did some good squeezing and it discharged. I put a blister plaster on because its precisely where my bra wire sits under my arm and it was really hurting. One week in, I have developed an actual hole in my armpit! It is probably 2cm long by 1/2 cm wide. I'm a nurse and could actually stitch it (I wont because then the infection will stay in, but I mean it is big enough to be stitchable!)

The red wrinkly-ness is from the plaster removal 😂

Ouch that looks painful.

NickMyLipple · 29/08/2019 22:45

Not at all, weirdly!

rubs thighs

AngelOfDeathNix · 31/08/2019 07:28

Ouch, you might need that packing to get it to heal properly

saffy1234 · 31/08/2019 07:35

I would suggest some packing
Also please keep vigilant for smelly discharge from it,warmth or spreading redness around it.

Oblomov19 · 31/08/2019 08:04

Blimey. You really need to get that seen to.

NickMyLipple · 01/09/2019 00:02

There isn't any exudate now, which is promising. It has had a mefix dressing on for a few days. I have got some packing, but its really small - I don't think I'd manage to get anything in there! Surrounding skin is sore from the mefix so I'll use some cavilon before re-dressing. Nothing nasty going on, infection wise!

ZeroFuchsGiven · 01/09/2019 00:06

That looks so much worse today, that must be terribly painful under your arm.

NickMyLipple · 01/09/2019 00:18

@ZeroFuchsGiven - not painful (can't even feel it, apart from now having changed the dressing tone surrounding skin is sore). From a wound healing point of view its improving for sure - there is no exudate now and the wound isn't sloughy. It is nice and dry and I'm sure will heal up just fine! Grin

I've had 2 do that. One on my stomach which healed completely and has no scar, and one on my leg where I do have a big 1cm round dimple scar. So there is hope it will sort itself out. I hope it's not too sore.

YesQueen · 01/09/2019 01:24

Anyone want to see my armpit hole after I had an abscess drained under GA? I'll give you a hint it was big enough they ended up doing plastic surgery as it wouldn't heal and I had a skin flap done....

Shitsngiggles79 · 01/09/2019 01:50

Ooooo go on YesQueen, my sister n sister in law both have a boil condition n I love a good peek.

DH had a wisdom tooth out last year as an emergency as he's allergic to penicillin and didn't know it (how you get to 40 n not know is beyond me) anyway, they gave him inodine patches to pack the wounds with that worked a treat, its brown colour but turns white when it needs changing. You can pick it up on Amazon. Hope it heals quickly OP.

YesQueen · 01/09/2019 01:54

I have HS hence the abscess
Photo one is the abscess, of you look at the bottom left corner you can see how far the redness spread
Photo two post op
Photo three was after my tantrum of "I have had a hole under my arm for 9 months, it's not healing, FIX IT"

Shitsngiggles79 · 01/09/2019 01:59

Wow YesQueen that's a good one, HS is what sis n sis in law have too, couldn't remember the name. My DS hates when the abscess' form a tunnel to a new one.

Tcapri89 · 14/07/2020 22:46

I had that happen to me too. I currently have a small hole under one arm pit and an old boil still healing under another. I keep them bandaged, clean them and treat them with neosporin but they’re not really getting a moment to heal because my child gets a bit rough. Does anyone have any tips that can help? I rather not resort to stitches :(

Steph1296 · 24/11/2020 06:43

I've just had a boil on the under bit of my breast, it was just a red lump for a while and it started to disappear.. went back to look at it last night and it was just waiting to burst, now I have a hole too, what do I do with it now? Haha TIA

Rara80 · 26/04/2021 05:24

No offense, but you're a nurse and can't see that is a parasite in your skin???! At night it will twist and turn and release white worms. You can see the dang things in the skin around the sac. See a doctor asap! The second photo you can even see the worms beginning to pop out! I had this same thing. Theres a good chance you're living with worms. It boggles my mind that you cant see that larvae or that you havent noticed them coming out at night. Bleh, I know! Your entire home needs to be sanitized with steam. It's the only thing that kills them.

Rara80 · 26/04/2021 05:27

It's called creeping eruptions or cutaneous larvae migrans. Look it up.

Pinworm

LookToTreblesGoingTreblesGone · 26/04/2021 12:57

@Rara80.
This was nearly 18 months ago. You've resurrected an old thread!
And that's nothing like pinworm! The OP is a nurse and I'm sure can tell the difference between a sore spot and ruddy worms!!
Now calm down.
