Ingrown toe nail

Any advice ?! When to a chiropodist thought she had sorted it, she hadn't a month on it's sore, red and infected again sorry TMI but when I try and have a look at it / clean it there is puss.

It's really painful.. should I be trying another chiropodist or a doctor/ nurse ? X

Try a podiatrist

Can your GP refer you to a podiatrist? Mine do this and I ended up having my nail removed

Bathe is salt water and gentle try to edge nail out (if you can bear the pain).

Make a gp appointment you may need antibiotics and a podiatry referral. DD had this and they cut away the nail and eventually she had both toes operated on. I think it depends on your nail shape.

If you can bear it, use a length of floss under the nail to lever it up a bit. Is it actually I growing or impacted? This method works a bit better with impacted.

Oh god 😩😩 I have been bathing it in salt water a lot today and ALMOST managed to cut the ingrown bit will try again tomorrow

I took DD to a private podiatrist after practise nurse prescribed antibiotics which did nothing and chiropodist referral was going to take 12 weeks. He trimmed it, packed it, showed her how to do it (she is 16 and refused to let me anywhere near it - spoilsport). Had a few follow up appointments to check it, re-trim it and basically get the nail to grow straight.

Went to the doctors he told me to pack it with savlon every day after the shower and if that doesn't soften it up and make it grow straight he will freeze it and snip the bad bit out ?!

FYI the terms chiropodist and podiatrist are interchangeable nowadays though the term podiatrist is the preferred. If it initially cleared and then reoccurred, it is likely to be a nail shoulder (slightly impacted, sharpish corner remaining). See how you go with lifting edge of nail and filing, but worst case - see GP for Pod dept referral for a piece of nail to be removed under local anaesthetic.
