Sporner corner

If you want to see spot squeezing, popping or videos showing the removal of blackheads - this is the place for you.

Does anyone know what this is?

No pictures unfortunately, but I'll try and describe as best I can.

I sometimes get spots that are like a hard lump, sometimes with pus or a blackhead, but then they seem to develop a core, which is of a semi-hard white-ish matter. A bit like a blackhead but more solid. This core is attached at a sort of root, and the original lump of the spot only seems to heal when pulled out at the root with tweezers. It's definitely not milia, but nobody seems to know what it is, apart from my dad who has had a similar sort of thing.

Any ideas? The "core" is usually 2-3mm long.

Molluscum? Unusual for an adult to have this infection, though.

Some sorts of cysts usually come wrapped in a thin layer of membrane which do seem to be attached to the surrounding tissues. If you drain them then you have to pull out the membrane too (like a tiny plastic bag) or they get infected. Could this be the issue here, do you think?

Steatocystoma?

BillywigSting · 28/05/2017 19:32

I get these too, always on my face, always before my period, three or four of them at a time a d they're agony.

I have no idea what they are but I know they scar Sad

Definitely not molluscum and I googled steatocystoma, and it's nothing like that. The core that pulls out is a sort of translucent white, not waxy like a blackhead, and a white tip, not black.

There was a thing someone mentioned on another thread, it begins with a K, it'll come to me in a bit, hopefully....
While Googling though I came across these things call Keratin horn, this is a new one to me. There's some massive ones if you Google images.

It sounds like a pilar cyst

Does it have a cheesy smelling discharge? If so, that is what it is.

Puffpaw · 29/05/2017 15:36

It is just hardened sebum
