So this is bad parenting but my 8 year old has always been extra waxy.
Everytime over the years gossip have looked in her ears they've said hey can't see the drum for wax.
Sooooooo. I had a look in her right ear.
It seems to be a massive plug of wax.
Ahhhh I'd love to poke but obviously don't want to damage! Pic to follow.... it's gruesome

NinkyNonky · 14/03/2017 22:54

What you need, is an ear spoon. Scoop that right out it would Grin

helensburgh · 14/03/2017 22:55

So so tempted. She's asleep.obviously.... Wonder if she would wake up.

You could get that easily with tweezers

Tweedledumb0 · 16/03/2017 08:48

If they see the drum for wax, it'll be affecting her hearing... Has no one ever referred her to ENT for suctioning?

You're absolutely not supposed to do this, but i ended up buying an ear wax spoon thingy for a couple of quid off eBay; has a light so you can see what you're doing, and then you can just fish the wax out yourself. But as i say, you're not supposed to!

helensburgh · 16/03/2017 16:59

She says I can do it when she's asleep..so I have da gentle go last night . No luck due to poor light !!!

helen please don't go fishing in your daughter's ear when she's asleep. If she wakes suddenly you could seriously damage her ear drum with whatever you're in there for.

Your best bet is to use ear drops to allow the wax to work it's way out.

Tweedledumb0 · 17/03/2017 10:59

Yes; asleep is a bad plan! Ear drops are the way forward. But you should definitely clear it, so she can hear Grin

helensburgh · 18/03/2017 20:32

Yes ear drops going in. Had a one when awake but was too scared!

Take her to get her ears hoovered out. Not only is it amazing to see the horrific amount of stuff coming out but her hearing will be much better afterwards. My DS at about the same age found it life changing because he hadn't realised how much information he was missing in every day interactions.

Thanks rabbit.
