Planning a family ski holiday can be exciting, but there’s a lot to think about too.

From choosing a resort that works for different ages and abilities to finding family-friendly accommodation, ski schools and activities away from the slopes, knowing where to start can sometimes feel overwhelming.

If you’re considering somewhere a little different for your next family ski trip, Norway could be worth exploring. Known for its spectacular scenery, reliable winter conditions and family-friendly approach to skiing, it offers plenty for beginners, experienced skiers and everyone in between.

That’s why we’ve invited the experts from Ski Safari to Mumsnet to answer your questions about planning a family ski holiday in Norway.

Whether you’re completely new to skiing or already have a few family ski trips under your belt, this is your chance to ask about everything from choosing the right Norwegian resort to what you can expect when you get there.

Post your questions for the Ski Safari team below by Friday 16th October and you could be in with a chance of winning an £100 voucher. T&Cs apply.

Our expert panel are all mums who have skied or snowboarded extensively across Norway: Abbie, Amy, Claire, Hannah, Maggie and Victoria. They’ll be answering your questions with their insider knowledge to help you decide whether Norway could be the destination for your next family ski adventure.

About Ski Safari
We know what matters to mums when it comes to skiing. Every year we help hundreds of families plan, book and enjoy their perfect family ski holiday, and more than half our team are parents who ski with their own children each winter.
Ski Safari started in Canada 30 years ago, but since joining our programme in 2012, Norway has become our most-visited and most-loved destination for families.

Between us, we’ve skied at every resort we offer, visited every property and sampled more than a few of the restaurants, bars and non-ski activities. We’re here to help with parent-to-parent advice.

For those with young families, what is the minimum age that kids should be for them to also take part?

rhabarbarmarmelade · 15/09/2026 22:12

I love Oslo. What would be the best ski resort to twin with a city visit? Also, is it very expensive, as I find Norway quite pricey, though also very high quality.

alshareif · 15/09/2026 23:41

Are any ski resorts in Norway young family friendly?

StrugglingAlong75 · 16/09/2026 02:09

How do skiing prices in Norway compare with other countries given that Norway is generally expensive?

junkoenoshima · 16/09/2026 11:38

Is the food child friendly and can you give an examples of what would be on the menu, please?
I’m sure the skiing et cetera will be second nature - I have a very sporty family, but my lot eat a lot of ‘brown’ food - and as eating is a much a part of a holiday as the excitement I’d like to be well equipped in
advance.

Kweenxo · 16/09/2026 18:28

Are different types of diets usually catered for?

ruqiya1965 · 16/09/2026 21:49

I've never been skiing. How hard is it to start and are there lessons/activities available for beginners?

Captivatingcapybara · 16/09/2026 22:33

JacCharlton · 17/09/2026 18:19

How you carer for very different abilities - I have one very sporty child - the younger one and the elder one borderline dyspraxia - how would you ensure a family got the most out of a ski holiday with abilities ?

MzHz · 17/09/2026 18:41

Dh and I used to ski a lot when younger, now in late 50s and mid 60s, I’d like to give it another go, maybe not downhill, but maybe alpine skiing etc?

im really not a fan of other peoples kids, so are there adult only hotels? Which destinations would be better for those of us who want a fun but relaxing alpine holiday

Johnogroats · 19/09/2026 13:22

For a family with good skiers how does Norway compare? Our young adult sons still holiday with us and we like to cover over 50km a day in resorts such as Vars, Puy St Vincent, Serre Che on a variety of pistes. Would you recommend a particular resort for us? Thanks!

TheSnowQueen · 27/09/2026 16:43

Hi! If we were looking for a snow sure Easter holiday with reasonable transfer times and good family accommodation with easy access to the slopes and ski school that would cater for a slightly reluctant 5 year old which resorts might work for us?

Pugwash2005 · 27/09/2026 23:34

Looking for a mixed ability ski holiday for a family of one first time skier and mixed ability skiers. Norway sounds like a great place for other experiences, what else is on offer there?

MayCottage · 29/09/2026 11:54

What would you say is the best time of year to book - and if we want Christmas there - how far in front should be book - does it get extra busy - or not at that time of the year ?

stripedlemon · 29/09/2026 15:42

Which resorts are best to suit a range of ski abilities?

AnotherDeadSparrow · 30/09/2026 20:37

We took the kids skiing for the first time to Trysil a couple of years ago and loved it. Can you suggest any other resorts that would be good for February half term?

Summergarden · 01/10/2026 22:53

Are there other activities and facilities to appeal to kids that don’t take to skiing or would like a break from it on holiday? If so, which activities?
