Can we pay council contractors to update bathroom during DFG adaptations?

Our DS12 has been approved for works to his bedroom and for a wash/dry toilet in our bathroom (we only have one). The surveyor has been round and has said that we will also need a slightly smaller sink to accommodate the new loo, which we are fine with. He also mentioned that the flooring would have to come up and the sink splash back would have to be redone too, which all makes sense.

Before I forget I should mention that our bathroom is small - shower bath along one wall, loo and window on opposite wall, less than 2m squared floor space.

DH has said that if we are having that much work done in our bathroom then it might be prudent to self fund a new shower/bath and tiling at the same time as the council complete their work, as our bathroom is in need of updating anyway and we would be halfway there as it is.

My question is this, would we be able to engage the contractors that the council have approved to undertake this work at the same time? We are not talking anything flashy at all, just some mid range new tiles, flooring and the tub with splash guard and shower over. We would pay for everything additional ourselves, parts, labour etc so the disabled facilities grant would remain just for the adaptions agreed.

In general terms, it is possible to fund work that isn’t covered by the DFG. In that there isn’t a rule forbidding it. However, you will need to speak to the company undertaking the work as to whether that specific company will allow it.
