Anyone else rely on DLA and carer's and worry about it being stopped/ cut?

DS receives DLA high rate care and I claim carer's allowance as had to quit work in the end.

If I weren't receiving these I would be relying on income support and I get all worried about this as I feel the DLA and CA are life savers ATM.

I don't know if DS will always be entitled to high rate care DLA anyway - I would hope from a mum POV that he will eventually develop enough that he doesn't qualify for it, and that these developments would mean I could return to work - but who knows!

Anyone else feel the same way?

No did not have ut denied but they still contacted ds nursery despite having paed physio reports.hmm ds is at Sn nursery for a reason but lol think they missed that

They seem to be really pushing to reduce DLA or stop it all together -there are a couple of other threads on here about it. Very scary

SiblingrivLRY - i'VE JUST GOT ds1'S NEW AWARD (sorry for shouting) through and he's still getting middle rate care and is now getting higher rate mobility in addition - until the end of 2015, when he turns 12. I thin he could get higher for both, if the wind was blowing in the right direction, but I don't have the fight in me, right now (if he'd not got as much as he did, I would be fighting!)

DS2's original middle rate care is supposed to be "indefinite" but he turns 5, next year, so I'll have to re-apply, anyhow. Should be, um, interesting.

It's what the hell's happening with the disability component of tax credits that worries me, since we're just at the point where we'll probably lose all of the rest, in a couple of years when they really ratchet down the limits.

Great news about your DS1'S renewal! I know what you mean about running out of fight -I feel like that at the moment.

I hadn't heard anything about the disability component of TC -is that also under threat?
Bloody hell, as if we don't have enough to contend with! I've been waiting all day for dd's OT to return my call and my patience is starting to run out - she might face the brunt of my frustration

When the announcements were made about the new upper levels for tax credits, absolutely no mention whatsoever was made of the disability and severe disability components. Osborne was probably as ignorant about their existence as he is about the purpose of DLA.

I think his view of disability is that it's something you only see on TV documentaries and in families screwing the benefit system. We're all like Lou and Andy in his little world.

SanctiMoanyArse · 05/07/2010 16:19

As far as I am aware DLA / tax credits partr is not any more under threat than any other Governemnt generated income.

So, under considerable but not specific threat.

SanctiMoanyArse · 05/07/2010 16:20

I think gideon's view of disability comes back to pure New Right ideology: if you can't afford the kids whatever their needs don't have them.

And if you struggle work your way out of it.

Completely fails to bring relaity into focus of course.

HAs anyone else read Vince cable's bio? Quite sickening that he is happy wto work with ideon now given his comments about him in there.
