fashion with no laces

ds2 (14)needs a pair of trainers/plimsolls for the summer and I want to get something that he can also wear in the river minnowing. Want him to have something teenagerish and not something that is obviously bought by his mother. He's getting quite conscious of not looking "wallyish"

He can't manage laces at all and I can't stand crocs. Everywhere I've looked I only see laces, any velcro versions are aimed at younger children and don't go up to size 5.

Anyone seen a pair of canvas shoes with pretend laces or elastic or something similar which isn't uncool?

I buy DS velcro trainers in Sports Direct. They are always "cool" brands and massively reduced. They also sell those sort-of foam velcro sandals, I also bought some of those in Gap a couple of years ago. They last forever. That sort of velcro man's sandal seems to be quite acceptable?

Boden have a great pair of canvas pull-ons but £22

converse style shoes are very in for teenagers they do slip on ones, I have trainers that have velcro fastenings got them from sports direct.

DD1 was a big fan of Vans slip-ons, loads of styles (obviously they have a blokes range too, think they were mainly for men to begin with).

I went into JD sports yesterday and bought some velcro strap trainers for £15. They do velcro ones from size 4 up to size 8 (they also do half sizes).

They also do an online service.

Vans it is, ds1 has the laces version. very cool to be like his big brother. I didn't realise they went down to 5s and did slip ons.
