Hi DS1 12 has doesnt hear mid range sounds with his R ear.He is also VI and has Aspergers. We had always been told there was nothing to be done about the hearing and it is the more minor of his disabilities. Today we saw a different audiologist and were told he could have a single hearing aid. It might be helpful in determining were sound is coming from. He said some people found it useful, others disliked having just one. Do any of you ladies have any experiance

Thanks

It would really depend on your child, but having better hearing from both ears helps to localise as your audiologist said. It can also help ease tiredness as trying to hear in noisy situations can be very tiring!! I wouldn't say to try it or not as you haven't said that much about his additional needs. Some children with Aspergers can reject hearing aids as they don't like the extra sensory stimulation, but that is very independent upon the child. If your child also has a visual loss though, it may help him understand more about his world. I've known many parents who chose to try hearing aids because their children also had visual losses.
