Hi,
My dd is 9 1/2yrs and has alot of ASD traits-but just wandered whether anyone else has a child at this age that is still petrified of the dark.......she will still SCREAM if she has to go to the toilet alone at night, walk back to her room alone.....she has little night light in her room, a glow bear and a torch and still is so so anxious about being in the dark.It is definately getting worse for her the older she is getting.
Is this normal for ASD children?
Thanks
x

hi also have ds with asd now 12 still have some problems with the dark! when my ds was that age was absoultely petrified of the dark so can understand where you are with this. my has improved with time but each child is an individual so there no telling how things will go, i just left the lights on until they fell asleep and left the hall light on all night with thier door ajar. ofcourse going out of an evening was very difficult had to make sure i had another adult around if we were going to be coming home late.
have you tried giving them a big torch could also try the this is a magic ( an item of your choosing) and will protect you in the dark, this worked for me it was a small pocket size stone but you could try a necklace or someting this helped for a while. i would say its common for asd kids as i know of others but there all different .best of luck with this.
