DS has first assessment for ASD tomorrow - anything I should ask?

DS (just turned 5) has his first assessment tomorrow for ASD (possibly Aspergers). We and his teachers have filled in about ten different questionnaires on behaviour, speech, sensory issues etc etc

The assessment will be approximately 2 hours, with a paed - but beyond that I don't know what to expect.

Can anyone give me some advice on what I should be asking or how to prepare?

Thanks.

From your thread title the most obvious question is how many assessments it is going to take.

A very experienced specialist in asd can do a full diagnosis in about 2 hours, but local authorities like to faff about for months getting input from various agencies. If the situation is complex then this is justified (i.e. if visually impared, plus adhd, plus dyslexia etc), but otherwise tell them to get a blardy move on with it.

i wouldnt plan questions tbh. Before you go do think of examples of ASD behaviours as they will ask. HTH

We saw paed at beginning of this month after referral from school and didn't fill any questionnaires in advance. I did fill an A4 sheet though with various traits & issues which were concerning us. We chatted to paed while DS played/talked to an assistant outside the room. Paed said that she expected to give a diagnosis of AS because of discussion/history but when she met and spoke to him couldn't be sure as he wasn't presenting how she expected him to be. He is complex apparently and we therefore now have to wait 5 months for ADOS test to hopefully get a dx. Also completed sensory questionnaire and awaiting OT appointment. She said that she would normally give a dx at first appointment. HTH

Thanks everyone. I shall report back...

I have a copy of all our notes, books from pre-school etc. Just want to be as prepared as I can be...
