Ds1 had a physio review today and she said about his shoe raise, as he has a 2cm difference,He hates wearing it, he says he feels strange when wearing it. Anyway she said that it can cause a curve in the spine, and when she checked him she said he has a small curve in the lower spine. Will this be a problem?

My DS also has a leg length discrepancy and shoe lift. However he also wears splints and because the whole lot was a nightmare to fit into shoes he hasn't consistently used the shoe lift.

He has recently developed Kyphosis We aren't sure if he would have anyway as he has weak muscle tone and has always needed supportive seating etc because he slumps badly but I do wonder if the leg length problem has contributed.
I would encourage him to use his shoe lift as much as possible so that it becomes natural. Small curvatures aren't a massive problem but they do cause pain..and can increase dramatically in puberty when the growth spurt hits, so worth preventing if you can

yes Ds1 wears splints too, and he says it feels really strange, mmmm he is 12 now, and small for his age, so worried that he will shoot up and it will have huge problems on his back and legs.

my DS is also 12! However he began the most ENORMOUS growth spurt about a year ago when he hit puberty at a gallop... and is now 5 ft 9 .. the orthopods are predicting 6 ft 4....

We have definitely noticed a deterioration as he has grown.. his hamstrings are now really tight, hips have a fixed flexion deformity, achilles tight ..(he used to be mega loose!). He is fully mobile but even so the growth is having not-good effects, and it's now affecting his spine too.

I think a slower growth is kinder on the body!
