My child is educationally average - reads writes happily, has two friends he plays with. Behaviour at home normal, and in classroom, except for the following:

says no-one wants to play with him - which is true, as people are finding his loud voice and hand gestures ODD
he "stims" - extravagant hand gestures all the time whenever left to his own devices
shows exaggerated affection - very touchy feely, hugs people all the time whether they want to or not, smothers people with kisses, general silliness

It seems to be getting worse since he moved up to junior playground, and he is using this hand thng constantly as a protective mechanism to shut people out?

Any advice? - going to GP, school wants him assessed by clinical pyschologist, so that they can help solve stimming.

Btw he is otherwise a delightful child, very active, just a bit odd..interested in lots of things, everything really except football.

see if you can find a sensory trained OT who might be able to help?
