Hi everyone I am new but always read for advice of which Ive had plenty . My DS 10 has had SLT since 3.5 yrs ,at that age it was described as severe specific significant impairment .but he was refused assessment .anyway thereafter it was called speech delay. 7 yrs later he has gone from 10 hrs to 15 hrs to now 20 hrs statement .we know he will not cope in high school so have gone for private slt,ep, ot,reports.,and we are happy to go to tribunal. We have put down independant M/S but specialist in nature .Anyway had private slt assessment at school and she phoned me yesterday and said he is so severe he needs more help and should look at above school as the one we have in mind will still not be suitable. well i could not believe it as his lea slt said yes he will struggle in m/s but make sure he sits in front of class and gets tapped on the shoulder every 5 mins !!His private slt asked me if we had any other paper work as nothing has any scores on exactly as mysonben`describes in earlier thread. She said she was shocked as she has never seen so many reports on a child with no scores and was appalled at our lea. So has anyone any personal experience with above school. It is boarding so we are in a daze at the moment .Many thanks

Hi
No experience of the school. Heard of it though. Friends looked. One thing to always remember is that the LEA/ NHS therapists are required to toe the LEA line and not spend too much of their budget. Sorry to all you SALTs and OTs out there. But its a case of even if they can see someone needs the facilities a school like moorhoiuse provides the budget isnt theirs to spend and their hands are tied. An independant therapist will be looking to give you a report that will help you get through a tribunal. It might be worth looking at the school and others. I believe there are several around. Also speak to SOSSEN. They will know of the school and others. Where are you?? I believe the people I know looked at blossom house, St Catherines on Isle Wight, St Dominics and some school in Somerset

Thanks. We are in london area.We do not want him to go residential but if we are battling for the right support and provision then we should not ignore professionals advice and will do what is right for our son.You have to think of the future.

We are now wondering what private EP and OT will show as DS was discharged 2 yrs ago. That might also be because of budget -he had problems with fine and visual motor skills.

We have only one chance financially to go thru tribunal so are throwing everything at it. Statement comes 15 feb and i was really worried that if we lose we will just have M/s to go to ,but they seem to think we have a very strong case .Though after reading on here and following cases you just do not know.

I had to smile at 1 mum who said she wasn`t the type to make a fuss -well neither were we but we are now! ,no one else will do it for you.x
