Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Time to stand up to councils and LEAs because our children's rights are coming second to money.

HI everyone, i am currently a third year university student and for a piece of work i am looking at the special needs system and how successful integration into mainstream school is. I would love to hear views from you the parents on:
statements
funding your child receive and if there was any changes you would like to see in the system.

I have joined. I did a bit of campaigning about the PCT and OT waiting times and have been on radio and local tv news about it recently but I did also mention that it was hard enough for all parents of children like ours without having the educational and medical systems to fight also.

Does it ever feel like we're fighting a losing battle? Feeling like that today

GMMS, did something crap happen today?

daisy5678 · 12/03/2010 18:57

Just found out on Monday that I'll have to be going ahead with Tribunal as the LEA are trying to change the Statement even though nobody recommended it. And it was a great Statement before not about cost-cutting, apparently, but there is no possible explanation apart from that and they're refusing to back down. Just feels like it will never end.

givememoresleep, I'm very sad today also!! sick of fighting the loosing battle too!!Have sent request!!

vjg13 · 12/03/2010 19:18

Good grief that is crap. Are they trying to reduce support hours? Do you think they will back down in the end, they could just be trying it in?

daisy5678 · 12/03/2010 19:57

Yes, support hours and are taking out other support like ASD outreach which they say will still happen (and ASD outreach worker says it will too), but then why take it out? Don't trust them as far as I could throw them! And also still refusing to specify SALT how I want them to. Also tried to take out the wording about 1:1 and add in random crap. None of this stuff comes from recommendations that anybody who's met him has made and none of it came out of the Annual Review minutes/ meeting. Just made up. So so angry.

They won't back down. Tried everything to make that happen but they've finalised the shitty edited Statement now so think they finally mean business. Has never happened before - every time I've challenged, they've given in before finalising the amended Statement, but this time I think we'll be going all the way to Tribunal. so don't need this stress!

Really sorry to hear that. The LEA must be flat on its arse financially to be doing this now.

DJAngel · 12/03/2010 22:08

Have joined. We're waiting to hear if the LEA will actually agree to a statement. We're expecting them to say yes but we're ready for having to fight for what our dd actually needs. It's SO what you don't need, having to fight for everything.. Good to get a bit political and try to have some kind of voice in some way..
