does anyone have any experience on referring from mainstream to private sen school

hi has anyone tranferred their child from a manstream school to a private sen school.my ds currently is on role at a school in kingston,we live in merton.No one seems to know who will pay my ds had an assessment which said he needs to go to asmall school and has an anxiety disorder due to school!.i have found a new education unit in merton they are will ing to take my ds but who pays i have rang merton they say kingston pays!!!dont know what i will do if i have to pay i cant pay private fees.he does not have a statement,i requested one but they refused.am going to ring school tomorrow to find out whats going on just thought maybe someone else had been there!!!

your local lea will be liable to pay if you can prove that your current school cannot meet his needs but you will probably need a statement naming that school otherwise its where you are at the moment or you have to pay yourself.

Request a statement for your son and inlist the help of a social worker if it becomes difficult or time consuming

Hi, I live in Merton as well with a SEN child and have had many years dealing with Merton LA. They are a difficult Council to deal with - would be pleased to help you - we have fought for a statement and for placement in an out of borough independant mainstream school - and I do mean 'fought'. If you are in Merton there are a number of others like you in the same boat. As for saying it is Kingstons responsibility to provide the education is totally rubbish - if you live in Merton it is their responsibility, thats who you pay your tax to! Would be interested to know how you are getting on and always happy to help anyone fighting Merton SEN department!
