Help/advice needed on a couple of small issues please

First one is that dd is still putting things from the floor into her mouth. We have changed her diet, had a blood test done and still she does it.
Secondly she has started to tell people to shut up. Now I know she is getting it from Horrid Henry. It's quite funny really as since dd has been reading Horrid Henry dd has been calling her friends in school the names in the book, such as crabby, sour etc. Her teacher's are trying it so hard not to laugh. I have decided to put the books away. She just doesn't seem to allow it to sink it that it's rude! Obviously she cannot carry on saying this so need some way to stop her.
HELP!!!!

Hi Blossomhill we have had the same probs with Horrid Henry Books, something that worked for us was to say to dd "lets see who can be like Perfect Peter today!" it worked for a while, she still asks if her/ds have been like Perfect Peter/Horrid Henry. Other than that I would try social stories/comic strips.

you may not like what i am going to say....but here goes....

TOM (age 11) still mouths anything he has in his hand.....at 5 he chewed through playstation wires and knobs.....and now he chews remote controls ......

all i can suggest is that you do what i do ...like a toddler/baby...i 'swap' what he 'can't' chew with something he can...he is often unaware of what he is doing...or what he has been 'swapped' with.

It has always been a problem for him that if anyone invited him round their house...or they brought a toy here...that he would chew their things...and i've had to apologise/replace many things because it was chewed by tom.

For me...with tom...it's like a stim...he NEEDS to do it...the OT says it's a sensory issue and to bannish it totally will cause great distess....

about the books...it's another hard problem when our kids take everything so literally/face value.....and TV too....leigh and alex picked up "Shut up You Bag" from some film or other....and ALEX upset many when he'd watched Lilo and Stich and got "Stupid Head"...and no mater how hard i tried ...i couldn't get them to understand the upset etc...and thankfully..... they gradually wore off!!!
