Funding in schools

How much help can or should a main stream school provide for a child with SEN?

Im assuming that a school would receive extra money for SEN, so can they really say they cannot give my ds who is on the action plus register any help at all because they dont have the funding or the time or the staff?

Surely he is entitled to SOME help without having to apply for a statement?

Glad you're feeling energised - strike while the iron is hot!

You have mail, btw

Have just had a quick look at the template letter, 1st part states 'his special education needs are'? and im stuck already!

For example school have stated a concern as 'ds separates himself, often physically from the rest of the class if a lesson involves an activity he dislikes (such as role play, reading, carpet time, music lesson). On these occasions he can be non-communicative when addressed, but will rejoin his peers after a period of time once the activity has begun'

Now i know he does this because

  1. he has problems with transitions (its always at the start of a lesson)
  1. obviously role play would be abstract and require imagination.
  1. music - he has to move class for music lessons and has a different teacher and he has problems with noise.
  1. carpet time, he is worried about being surrounded by others and being touched.
  1. Reading he has hyper mobility in his fingers, wrists etc and he is expected to point and follow text with his finger, which he refuses to do.
  1. He becomes non-communicative when overwhelmed and hates confrontation of any kind and he gets confused.
  1. He rejoins the group after he has had time to take it in because he hasnt been pre-warned

So what kind of answer are they looking for, a short bullet point or an explaination?
