Application being processed for DD (ASD).

Man phoned today from DWP saying they are aware of her needs during day as they have letter from hospital, but are not sure of her needs at night.

He then proceeded to interrogate me re what I have written in a really quite aggressive and disbelieving manner "what do you mean she wakes up" "why does she do this".

He had to go as their phones are not working properly and is phoning back tomorrow.

As advised I did quote what she did on a bad day, but I did not lie.

Am quite worried about him calling back.

Any advice?

TIA

thanks fanjo- i think being ill hasn't helped dd2, i think all the chrismasy things has upset her too, monday was a nightmare because nursery put the decorations up and started singing x-mas songs, she's also really constipated which doesn't help (since being ill she has become fussy with food).

Dd2 took a while to pick up the PECS, she took a few weeks to understand that she had to exchange a picture for an item but once she understood it it opened up so much for her and her communication improved more and more each day. Music therapy has also been great, she now sings all day long and bangs items together to make a tune. Stick with the PECS, once she understands it it will be a great help.

Dd2 asked me a question yesterday for the first time , she asked me 'where is Holly? (her sister), up until a month or so ago i don't think she even realize she had a sister. Its things like this that makes the hard work worth while .

I'm sure you will get high rate DLA, the money has been so useful for us as it meant i could give up work and spend more time with dd2 (working on the PECS and more floor time with dd2) as well as helping with petrol money getting dd2 to her SN nursery (we couldn't have done this without the extra money).

Wow, that is what I am waiting for, a question or answer from DD, must have been the best thing ever!

Hoping the PECS will take off but her attention span is so incredibly short I can't see her making the connection but I hope I am wrong!!

Had another terrible night last night, she was up for hours and screaming, she seems hungry but won't eat much all day then is hungry at night.

Sorry you had a bad night , dd2 fell asleep on the sofa by 8.30pm and then woke again at 1am, dd2 is eating less in the day, i have started doing dinner a bit later in hope that she will eat and not be hungry at bed time.

Is your dd getting help to work on her attention span? Dd2 used to just flick around the room only staying with one thing for a few seconds, we have used activities that motivate her (numbers/food) and now she will complete an activity such as cooking (making cookies) or a number activity, we started useing the PECS just with activites she was motivated by, we started with snack times (at the time she would do anything for food) and then moved on to choosing toys by giving her 2 choices (1 activity she loved such as bubbles and one she wasn't so keen on like sand). It took a while but once it clicked it was great and she moved on to using a senence strip (which took a little longer to get the hang of).

Hope you have a better night tonight.

Just got a payment in bank which makes me think we have got higher rate care.

But no mobility, which I think is a bit given that DD has hypotonia AND ASD.

Not sure if I have the energy to appeal though.

Good news that some money has arrived. How old is your dd? They seem to not give mobility till 3 for HR and 5 for MR so that might be the issue. Hope you hear exactly what has been awarded very soon.

ah i see, she is 3. She wouldn't get higher as she can walk. Thanks, that is reassuring!
