A laminating thread!!!

Very boring but exciting. The SALT recommended I make up some books for dd1 to help with her speech.

I have made 2 - see me ( doing things) and See my ( things)

I have finished one - see me - it has picks of dd1 doing things and I have laminated all the pages... just need to have it bound. Binding machines are sooo expensive so I guess I can take it to a printers or someone like Staples and have them bind it?!?!

I laminated the pages...... love my laminater - then got excited and started laminating all sorts of things ARGHHHHHHHHH I have the bug!! Certificates, stories about dd1 that have been printed. I decided to do up a display book of all the things dd1 has been involved in as well as any stories that have been printed about her for her to look at when she is older.

Okay - enough rambling. Anyway tried out the see me book last night and she said see as I was reading it through and then did all the signs she knew as we read through the book.

Can't wait to show the SALT today what I have done.

Sorry for a rambling thread. I just can't believe that she has tried to 'read' it just after the first look.

I know just what you mean about getting the laminating bug - most SALT's have it too (I am one). When I first got the bug I went through all my old photos that usually remain in a drawer somewhere and laminated to my heart's content, making a fabulous display for the cupboard doors in my utility room. Shame they're all falling off now though.... Just need to renew the blu tack I suppose.

I have recently tried to curb my enthusiasm, as I'm also a born again recycler (sp?) and "eco-mum" (as my dd likes to call me) and all that plastic doesn't seem very environmentally friendly.

You can usually get the binding done in the stationers shop. It's about £2-£3 to do in Colmans over here so you're bound () to have something similar over there.

Being a SALT must be an almost perfect job for someone who loves laminating.

I bought a laminator about 3 months ago AND I HAVEN'T USED IT YET!

hitc - did a load the first time we had it and then it sat for a while, I lent it out to someone and when it came back - the bug bit again - with these books.

The SALT was very impressed top marks for me....... gosh what a therapist's pet I am !!!

i use all my ink in the printer just making sheets of anything so that i can laminate.
Noone is ever going to touch it though - it's mine all mine

My laminator broke whilst laminating the pages of a whole Noddy magazine for DS! I am distraught. It was a good one as well.. a Draper..

Did you go overboard and laminate the contents page??
I regularly laminate objects for PECS style work.
Little tip: a lot of 'my' people love the Argos catalogue,but of course all that flicking wrecks them in days.If you go in and ask nicely,they may give you spare copies that are 100% laminated like the ones in the shop!!!!

that's a great idea....we wear out an argos book every month here!!!! (mind you i cannot blame the boys...tis me!!!)

And....we do all know that laminated paper makes perfect 'cheap' White Boards...so you can let them be creative...then they can wipe it away and start again!

My friend once wrapped one up as a Christmas present for her toddler as it was his favourite thing in the whole world.
He was delighted!

I've made a 'write on wipe off' wall planner out of 4 sheets of A4.....and i happen to know that BATTY has a beautiful laminated rota pinned up in her kitchen!

Laminating is also a great way to preserve childrens 'chalk/pastels'artwork that would otherwise smudge.

We have also laminated Pokemon & Yugioh cards.

Great for homemade puzzles too...and if you add sticky velcro to the back of the pieces you can stick the puzzle pieces to a felt board...

how about a making a 'doll' out of laminated pink card...then laminating pictures of clothing to 'fit' over the doll...velcro again so the child can dress the doll????

You can also make personalised sequence cards! (Tying shoes,making tea,cleaning teeth)

ohh like the doll idea - dd1 is just starting to say shoes and socks .... and pointing to them. Yesterday morning whilst I was getting her dressed - she kept pointing to every piece of clothing asking what it was.... very happy when I told her and she nodded yes - telling me I was correct

Dd1 has a whiteboard and chlakboard easel and she loves it - the whiteboard especially as she can clean it afterwards.

Am in the middle of producing a weekly calendar - probably out of cardboard - big sheet or felt so I can then velcro the relevant activity on the relevant day. Have been madly taking pics of her doing things - swimming, playgroup etc so she can look at her board and see what is happening today.

Have also decided to do her songs into little cards so she can choose what song we sing when we sing our songs......

Mizmiz - it was the SALT who suggested the books for dd1 - as another little boy's mum had done one up for him..... not as anal as me - she just popped them into a mini photo album ... me I have to 'produce' a laminated cardboard covered bound book!!! Did admit SALT seemed suprised I had one made already on Tues when she had only mentioned it on Saturday.

anyway better stop and get sorted.... playgroup today.

I encourage the schools I work in to hold up big visual prompts o the songs they sing in morning service (laminated of course!) It really helps orientate children.Just pick out key words and make appropriate pictures.

as said b4...stick the 'prickly' velcro to the card and then it will grip to not only felt....but even if you lay cards on the carpet etc....
