It came out when dd was born and my dh has always said how it reduced him to tears when it came on radio en route to hospital

That sorta sound really isn't my thing normally - keanecoldplaystarsailor.. indie boys and guitars going fast then slow, being all majestic and profound. Always found it rather pompous and turgid. Thought athlete were just another one of these bands but was pleasantly suprised

Think there were quite a few folk there who song had special resonance for

if i mind right it was about the lead singer Joel's daughter who was born prematurely, think she's doing fine now though

Some of the radiohead songs are along a similar painful line.

I can see what masonicpixie means, but sometimes its good to hear someone putting in words what's happening to you (as I'm typing this dd2 is lying on sofa with chest infection, have already been to docs to prevent repeat of last years' hospitalisation with pneumonia!)

Always makes me want to blub, its a great song.

Fab song, very moving

Beautiful song and has always made me think of DS in SCBU when I hear it, although I hadn't even realised till now it was actually about a prem baby - just had a look at the lyrics online - identify with every one.

And now am blubbing!

I saw the singer with his daughter in Ikea once, I was waiting for the baby changing and he was coming out with her. I wanted to thank him for such a lovely song (dd1 was a 27 weeker) but I was concerned he would think I was a wierdo stalker.... and he was just sneaking out incognito on a day off to buy a Billy Bookcase and some cheap napkins!

MY dd had a serious accident with a brain injury and was covered in wires as they bluelighted her with police outriders from one hospital to a specialist nuro unit for surgery. It came on radio as we followed the ambulance in our car. We put the radio on to calm us down. Thought it was a nice song didn't think any more about it but it always reminded us of that time, we had no idea of what the song was about. Then the lead singer was on Jo Whilley Radio 1 and talked about what the song meant, I burst into tears and still do every time I hear it. It was the first time I had cried. I always remember running down those corridors hoping she would live. Also remember saying that I would take her anyway she came no matter what, just so long as she lived. Could never have hope for such a good outcome.
