OMG my neighbour must think i am a useless mother..

We were all getting ready to go out this morning, i popped upstairs to go to the loo, dh was in the kitchen and the dd's were waiting by the door, when i come down the door was open, both dd's had gone outside, Dd2 had made her way to the car and was stood in the road, my neighbour was driving down the road . Dd2 has no sense of danger, luckily she kept close to our car (waiting to get in). My neighbour gave me a evil look as i ran out to get dd2.

Really angry with myself for letting this happen, dd2 could of easily go hit by a car. .

Aw, don't beat yourself up! It's not like you opened the door and shooed her out, it was an oversight that could have happened to anybody. No-one got hurt - chalk it up to experience. And really, stop beating yourself up!

We ALL do this. Even NT kids your DD2's age can do this and have very little idea of road safety, so I agree with Seuss. DD has opened the door and let DS out before now, usually when DH has just gone to work as he doesn't always remember to lock the door behind him!

This isn't the first time she's got into the road, whilst dh was with her a few weeks ago she ran out into the road, she loves the number plates on cars so will run straight towards them. I as trying to get my dad to fit a gate in the garden so she can't run out. Luckily our road is quite (its only the neighbours that use it so not a main road).

Definitely don't beat yourself up...your DD2 is only about 3 isn't she...most children that age either NT or ASD have no idea of road safety, or if they do it is very unpredictable. We live on a narrow but quite busy little road - and I have lost count of the number of children (all NT to my knowledge) who have made a bid for freedom the minute the door has opened at the end of a visit to us, and simply legged it without thinking about the traffic.

A gate does sound a good idea though, if only to give you peace of mind in future...

ds1 has escaped as well we now have a chain on the door so i have to let dp in( if he is nice) but the best one is when he slams the door and locks me out so i have to remember never to set 1 foot out of the front door without keys in my hand.
