Just got back from 3rd visit to BIBIC, such an amazing place!!

Now all assessments are free. I can't believe how wonderful Bibic is and would highly recommend it to any family with a child with disabilites/sn. They even help children with behaviour issues that may not have sn.

We're going in three weeks - they have full funding now which means the two day assessment & follow ups are completely free (bar £50 registration fee & they ask you to commit to their two year programme).

We're really looking forward to it - it'll be the first 'holistic' appraisal of ds's overall development that we've had.

incidentally my GP & HV had never heard of it but my portage worker knew of it & highly recommended it.

You have regular assessments (think every six months is standard but depends on needs of child & family) & they give you a therapy programme (2 x 20-30 minutes a day) which takes into account recommendations of OT, physio, any sensory issues, SALT, medical & nutritional issues. They don't diagnose but spend a day assessing the development of child then a day putting a plan together/teaching the family.

& it's all free

yep they gave me more helpfull and usefull advice in 2 days than had of anyone and the devlopment chart helped me pinpoint where ds . Unlike the devlopmental paed did hers in 2o mins including physical examination.

that's good news blossom. do you have to get school involved (their website mentions getting school to do a report)? just I think school already think I am somewhat neurotic (they seem to agree with NHS SALT that DS language now fine so would prefer to keep them out of the loop if I go down this route.....

Moondog we still have not had a ot program for ds hell took me year of pesterand complang even see ot and frankly she is useless but tere is not another ot in the area at all .But we do the bibic one regulary and it is helping

Star, we contacted them about 3 weeks ago - got the info pack 3 or 4 days later, then an interview (telephone, lasted about an hour & they were willing to do it at 7pm to accomodate dh's fascist employers) a couple of days after we sent the forms back. We paid the registration fee the day after that & got dates for the next month - so about 5 weeks from first enquiry.

yup Phoenix BIBIC are the first 'professionals' we've been in contact with who we feel actually give a damn about ds (& us too)

nope they did not bother with preschool nore are they bothering with ds school this time.

Both our Sn duo went, and I also have very ancient dimprofessional experience of them (did some link work, a few days there, they did training sessions for my team). Fab

They helped a lot with ds1's dx though we had to pull him as he threatened to attack our therapist (FFS), the lady there (manager / nutritionist/ exSALT) was the one who got ds3 talking though and I will be forever grateful
