Constant clicking fingers - what's all this about?????

DS has epilepsy, dreadful concentration and "something else" which I suspect is hovering on dyspraxia/ASD. Anyway, he has started clicking his fingers all the time He mainly does it when he's hearing something he doesn't like and has told me that by clicking it will stop people talking I don't know if it's some kind of self comforting thing, or a kind of tick ( both me and my Dad have various twitchy type things!!!!) or just a phase!

Any ideas and how should I deal with it? Ignore it? Keep asking him about it?

We have a cousin who has epilepsy and a tumour on her brain , 12 years old. She was first diagnosed with this because she was clicking her fingers all the time and falling a lot.

Please do not think Im saying your child has a tumour, I think its just linked to the epilepsy but would defo get this checked out.

I think we are all clear re tumours alfiemama as DS has had MRIs and nothing like that showed up. We are due to have a PET scan next month so they'll be having another look in there!

Does it correlate with the changes in Ds's medication?
It could be an ASD trait or tic. Can he stop it when he is made aware of it? If he is being assessed for ASD, it is definitely wirth mentioning, as well as talking to your neurologist.
Unfortunately in our experience, the paed and the neuro can never agree. e.g Neuro wil lsay - thats his ASD, then the paed will say, I think its caused by the epilepsy

He's not actually under anyone re poss ASD, just my feelings! You know, I think it might have only started since we increased his new med - are seeing neurologist on Thurs so he might (or not!!) have some ideas!

sometimes called a stim, too.
quite common with as/asd traits. like a tic lol.
some kids keep the same ones, others get new ones. i don't know much about it other than it's really common lol!
