DD rode a bike today!!! :D

Just a proud mum post really, have told everyone else but am still feeling the need to tell people
DD (8) has a spinal condition (for those that don't know) we were told she wouldnt walk, then she did, we were told she wouldnt jump or run..then she did.
We were told she definitely would never be able to ride a bike her legs are too weak. this I believed, I tried every now and again if we were in a shop with bikes. She never could.
Today we were in halfords, I didnt even bother trying her, but turned around and there she is the other side of the shop riding around on a bike!

So of course the most unplanned purchase of my life, bicycle bought and hours spent on the park tonight riding up and down the path, very very slowly, with stabilisers and a hell of a lot of effort, but by god she's got it

So so so so proud. I wonder what new prediction the doctors can give her to defy now! lol

wow So pleased for you both!!! I have a bit of an issue with bikes-I didnt want to buy the babies 2 & 3 yo their first bikes until Ds (7) had had his first bike-of course I had to change my mind and the little ones now have bikes and Ds doesnt. Makes me sad.

Well if nothing else monster today has taught me not to give up hope and that they never stop surprising us! Last time I tried DD on a bike she was 7 and couldnt do it at all. A year later and here we are

Hi! such fantastic news...and a triumph after being told she might not be able to... my heart sings to hear of these achievements - it gives me hope.
We had a bike related sucess story today too, and I want to tell people cuz it was a bit of a result for us.... my DS is 5, but very large (he wears age 8 clothes) and VERY uncoordinated with low balance, he couldn't use a scooter for instance and I don't think he could manage a bike with stabilisers. Anyhow I wanted to get him one of those wooden pedal free bike to see if he could use it with his feet on the floor but they are all for little people, and he is WAY too big for even the biggest one we have found. and to be honest they are pretty expensive and I wasn't sure he would use it: anything active is low on his list But I found a kids bike the right size second hand yesterday, and took it to the bike shop to have all the pedals and cranks and chain removed, so today he has a supercool pedal-free bike the right size, and he 'rode' it all the way back to the car from the shop wobbly as hell, but I am so proud of him, (and me for thinking of something to help him be more like his mates!)

Thats brilliant! Peddling is harder work with stabilisers too so once she has the balance she'll be flying! Bet she is delighted with her new bike.
Lauree thats excellent. Ds was 8 when he got peddling- still rather wobbly at rising 10 now.

That's amazing! I can only imagine how proud you are. Your dd is a little star -good on her for proving them all wrong!
