Any ideas? I'm stumped

Popping back for some advice. Hello! Usual odd behaviour problem from ds- he keeps me on my toes.

OK- he was stripping off and weeing round the house- now dealt with that- except for at bedtime. I thought I had it sussed by having super absorbent bed pads- which I was changing after he'd gone to sleep. He has now got round that by stripping off the bed each night, peeing on the matress then falling asleep naked on top of his bare, wet matress. brrr for him, and a big bed making session for me each night.

Any ideas? Giving him any attention at bed time is a bad idea (sends him hyper). I saw a paed today and she reckons you can get waterproof matress covers that you can zip up so the matress is completely enclosed. has anyone come across anything like that?

I suppose I just have to sit it out and be grateful that it's wee......

hmmm I wouldn't mind if he was wetting the bed dino- but the little sod is doing this on purpose. I was listening out for him this morning but ds2 was yattering in my ear and I didn't hear him wake up- fisrt I knew he was shrieking round the house naked killing himself laughing.

As odd as this might sound, is this a sensory thing? Does he want the confort of his bed smelling of him? (no offense on this one honest!) Loads of kids hate to have their 'special' toys washed because they smell is wrong. Have you changed your washing powder etc?

Jimjams · 12/05/2005 15:11

nah he just wants to be a git! Seriously hmb he's going for the reaction (not that he's getting one) but he thinks its hilarious. If you go in and find him the first thing he does is fix you with a naughty look (100% perfect eye contact) then he curls up laughing his head off. he'll jump into one of the beds, and if someone is around start to wriggle out of his clothes as fast as he can- looking at you the whole time- laughing. If we're superfast we can get him to the toilet first. Apparently he weed in ds2's bed yesterday afternoon- I was at PECS conference thank goodness.

Oh bllcks (in line with the new regime)

Bit of a sod that one.

Still, good to see you back, even if it is for a nasty problem

Jimjams · 12/05/2005 15:16

what's the new regime? can't I say bollards anymore?

he loves being naughty and although its irritating we kind of like it (hint of theory of mind etc). in moderation would be good though- my washing machine can't cope!

Yes, I know that if DS1 was doing it on purpose that would be much worse. DH does get very exercised about the extra washing though.

Jimjams · 12/05/2005 15:25

it is a pain! My washing pile is huge as it is. Washable nappies have been ignored for a while- and I don't care! My mum appeared with some waterproof duvet covers though so at least I don't have to washa a duvet a day now.

No swearing, which as you would know is something of a trail to me!

Can you steer him into making a mess of something smaller and easier to wash? Dunno? like muslin cloths in the garden and then give him a response to that one....might be the start of something worse though I suppose.

Jimjams · 12/05/2005 15:32

no swearing! sh*t- when did that start?

OP posts:
Jimjams · 12/05/2005 15:33

nah- he's pretty switched on as to when somethihg is naughty and when its allowed. allowed isn't fun!

happymerryberries · 12/05/2005 15:46

Could you let it happen 'by chance' and then be 'cross'?

pixel · 12/05/2005 17:07

Drat! I was just going to say that at least he doesn't do it in anyone else's bed, when I saw that he had. I really feel for you Jimjams and wish I had some good suggestions. Being the hard-hearted type I can't help wondering what he would do if you didn't rush around changing the bed and making it all nice for him. Does he actually LIKE a wet bed or would the novelty wear off pretty quickly?

Jimjams · 12/05/2005 17:51

oh I definitely don't change it quickly- in fact don't bother making it until right before bed time. He doesn't seem to mind lying in it- he thinks its funny- which is weird as he freaks out and insists on changing if he gets so much as a speck of water on him.

just found him on his bed- he's ripped his waterproof cover as he couldn't get it off and was climbing inside (that's safe- climbing into plastic!) in an attempt to wee on his matress. Am I allowed to swear under these circumstances? Anyone who is offended by swearing doesn't live my life! I only left him for 5 minutes to go and check on the baby (luckily as ds2 was "playing" with him)

oh no hes a determined little chap isnt he?

JakB · 12/05/2005 18:21

OMG! Jimjams, lovely to have you back but sorry you're having such a nightmare (I was on last week with tales of poo... must be a current theme). Can you put several layers over the mattress so he can't possibly get them all off? Erm...
Will keep thinking.

pixel · 12/05/2005 21:00

I wonder why he's so determined to get to the mattress in particular? Maybe it makes a nice noise when he wees on it or something. How about giving him a campbed and sleeping bag for a few nights so there is no mattress? Or one of those inflatable readybed things could be good.

I've found that when my ds gets obsessions I can sometimes stop it by removing the offending items. He seems to forget about it pretty quick and go on to something else, hopefully less annoying!

Jimjams · 12/05/2005 21:13

He was weeing on a different mattress (he has a cot mattress in his room- he has a cabin bed and its underneath in the tent), and he soaked the sofa this evening as well. It's just the naughtiness factor- that's all he's getting out of it- being naughty. He loves it!
