Dd2 is poorly but i dont want to take her to hospital/gp because she will have a meltdown.

I feel really guilty and useless

Dd2 (ASD) has been poorly for a couple hours, she has a high temp and is very sleepy, i posted a thread here and every ones telling me she needs to see someone. At the moment she is happy (not upset) but still very hot, if i take her any where (A&E) she will get very upset which will make her temp worse. I really don't want to put her through a trip to A&E.

I suspect she may have heat stroke as she has no other symptoms (just hot and floppy). Am i being a bad mummy for not taking her?

does calpol bring the temp down? It is a very hot day of course. I know exactly what you mean, and also try and avoid trauma of GP clinic.

you been able to get any calpol into her? .the temp could be making her sleepy mine always do when unwell .ds was like this oth day slept 15 hrs and normally hes bad sleeper

I am struggling to get medicine into her, i put some in her drink but i think she has noticed and is now refusing to drink anything.

She keeps falling asleep and then waking after a few minutes.

Just taken her temp whilst typing and its gone down to 37.9 which isn't as high. She's had a temp of 40 before and been fine, she seems to struggle to control her temp, she doesn't really sweat and she goes pink and blotchy on her arms.

I really think you need to phone for someone.

try wiping her down with tepid spounge dont put her in bath and if you have fan turn that on but not directly in front of her .

awkward one as kow you said shes non verbal , so cant pinpoint do you know if theres anything going round at school ?

maybe for own peace of mind talk to nhs direct though personally i find them a chocolate teapot

dd1's friend has a tummy bug but dd2 hasn't been near her for 6 days. She hasn't really been near anyone for a week apart from nursery this morning (she doesn't tend to get close to people anyway).

You're not a bad mammy for not taking her, especially if you know she will get worse if you do.

I do think you maybe need to speak to someone, nhs direct maybe, just to get some reassurance.

Will she at least have an ice lolly to keep her hydrated and maybe cool her down a bit? I find the only thing DS2 will have when ill is ice lollies.

She won't touch an ice lolly , i wish she would.

She's asleep now and slowly cooling down but still very pale. I now have the job of moving her off the sofa (my bed) into her bed.

Poor daling, hope she is a bit better in the morning.

If sh isn't though, you should maybe think about taking her to GP.

Although saying that, whenever DS2 is ill, he always seems to be a lot more ill than everybody else, even though he isn't iykwim.

She slept well, temp is down, still not eating and still floppy. I will see how she is after i have taken dd1 to school, sometimes she bucks up for DH but not me (she knows she will get extra fuss made of her from me).

I really think you have to find a way to get a doctor to look at her.

Marne, I would call the GP and explain the situation. Perhaps they'll make a home visit? But I agree with the others that you should see someone, even if it means risking a meltdown

I would be concerned about the floppiness. How is she now?

I know from previous experience whenever I phone NHS24 they also say bring DD in to be on the safe side. I do understand about you not wanting her to have a meltdown but maybe she does need to be seen just to check her out.

She's still floppy, she's had half a banana but her temp is going back up , we are off to the doctors at 11.30, dh is coming with us.

only just seen post hope dd is ok i normally ask gp to come out for ds if unwell due to meltdowns but have been known to take him regardless if really ill

We are back, dd2 was a night-mare i had to wrestle her so the doctor could check her ears and chest, she screamed the surgery down and got herself really worked up. The doctor couldn't find much wrong other than a high temp and swollen glands. The doctor is going to phone us at 2.45 to check on her.

Since we got home dd2 has eaten some apple and some of dh's chips from the chip shop and is now walking around watching Peppa Pig. Hopefully she is over the worst of it, fingers crossed she doesn't go down hill again like she did last night.

Glad the doctor couldn't find anything really wrong with her, but so for you and your DH that she was hard work.
Like I said earlier, ds2 always seems to get really ill when he has a cold/sickness bug when really he isn't. Maybe your DD is like that as well?

Hope your daughter is still doing ok. I'd just add that like 5inthebed's ds2, my ds3 always becomes twice as ill as anyone else when something does the rounds - much hotter, is limp and awful, won't eat for ages, if he's been sick or has a sore throat I can hardly get him to drink and then he gets in a right old state, is generally ill for a few days longer than the rest of us... Just the way he is but then I sussed this by the time he was 18 months, I guess if your daughter were the same way you'd know by now? He's six now and it was only earlier this year when his little brother (ds4) started nursery and picked up a stomach bug there (stomach bugs ds3's speciality!) that he finally had only relatively mild symptoms compared to ds3 - the very first time that was the case!
