Fish Oils - which one to use and HOW!!

My DS just will NOT take any fish oils! He will happily take vitamin supplements but these are nice tasting and never have the fish oils in them.

He refuses chewy sweets & syrups. The only thing I have managed to do is snip open a sainsburys own brand multivitamin capsule (inc omega 3), spread it on toast and cover it with honey!!

I just wondered which fish oils are the most popular and if your DC doesn't like eating them straight off a spoon, which tricks have worked for you.....thanks!

sc13 try splitting them and putting juices into something or on a spoon

Started my DS on the chews Weds and he was not impressed. After alot of bribery (trip to watch the trains ) he took some more. Now this evening when I gave them to him he said "these are a little bit nice now mummy!"

How long before you noticed any improvement in their behaviour ie slowing down and concentrating a bit more?

it was good two weeks before i noticed a change but could have happened sooner just thought to myself how well he was acting

but remember it may take your ds slightly longer and it may only be small change to start with just keep it up every day i had loads of positive feedback before i started ds and again it appeared to work for him

i'm glad he likes the chews now lol

Have just got a box of Dolphin Pals DHA gummies from a health store (run out of eskimo oil) and the manager let us taste before buying (she had an open jar for the purpose). Ds likes them but they taste slightly sharp to me - a bit like orange and yellow fruit pastilles without the sugar to me - no fish aftertaste though! Might be worth exploring for those who do not like oils especially if you can do a 'taste test' first.

I have decided to start my DS on the Eye Q chews as he has some problems concentrating at school - he takes a strawberry vitamin supplement (chewy sweet) very happily but has been hard to persuade onto the chews. He will not actually chew the individual capsules to get the contents out but he will drink the contents if I split open the chews onto a spoon, as bubblagirl suggests, as if he were taking a spoonful of medicine!

He also has a small cup of apple juice to drink straight down afterwards as he, too, is clearly not keen on the taste - but he is taking the fish oil now quite happily. Bit of a pain snipping the capsules etc etc but at least he's hopefully getting the benefit!
