well proposed statements in there offering 22hrs of support and that includes 5 hrs that the school has to fund themselves

no quantifying of how supports to be give can be indivual , group and class work no amount of 1-1

salt wise mostly good i think .can any experianced with salt say if sounds good as this my major concern

a) communication programe incorprated as part as part of his iep

b)specific targets identified by salt

c)indivuaql stratgies implemented throughout the day and curriculm

D)regular indivisual or small group sessions at least twice a week with trained memeber of staff on specific targets

E)staff whoare experianced or have training in useofmakton and this should be use alongside verbal and non verbal communication

f) laungage in class room to be simplified

g) termly review and updatingof communication programe by salt

they have stated that all staff need be trained or experianced in makton as ds is non verbal

phone Ipsea and get them to tell you suggested changes.

TotalChaos · 22/05/2009 19:23

as stary has said, run it by ipsea. My gut relatively inexperienced reaction is that termly SALT isn't enough - do you really want him only to be seen 3 X year? Also they have not mentioned use of a communication aid/training of staff with communication aid, which I recall may be introduced with your DS.

also possibly they should be saying something about use of visual aids/visual timetable.

Phoenix4725 · 22/05/2009 19:32

yeah willcall ipsea but will be Tuesday now before anyone sthere..

ah theycoverd that under 3.5 use of first and then and visual timetables and visualchoice boards

yes willget that added as thats a new devlopment and yep see salt 3 times year seems kinda wrong fo non verbalchild

Phoenix4725 · 22/05/2009 19:34

what worries me if hes only got 22 hrs of support whats he ment to do for communication for the other 8 they talkof buddy system but that then relies on 4/ 5 year olds communicating with him and how as he does not talk

OP posts:
vjg13 · 22/05/2009 20:09

It seems like he may only do his SALT programme twice a week, are you happy with that?

How many children in a 'small group' and they may have very different needs?

Also termly visits from SALT will equate to 3 visits a year as others have said.

SOS:SEN are also very good and this firm will do a statement check for you but I have no personal experience with them.

Phoenix4725 · 22/05/2009 20:13

yeah if ds goes to ms not that i want him in therehe will be the only non verbal child out of 90 kids

if and big if reckon going have to fight lea all the way the sn school i want does employ their own salt.Atm i do salt stuff every day with him

OP posts:
Phoenix4725 · 22/05/2009 20:14

they said he need s playgroup support and that will need help with feeding but wtf he ment do rest of hrs theres no help

OP posts:
Phoenix4725 · 22/05/2009 20:27

argh all the reports state that ds needs a lot of 1-1 support in every area ,dressing , feeding , soically , communicating ,playing and to stay safe as he has no understanding of danger and they have not quantified any 1-1 at all

OP posts:
Phoenix4725 · 23/05/2009 07:05

and would have arrived after allthe ipsea etc closed for weekend

OP posts:
bubblagirl · 23/05/2009 07:07

oh phoenix i do feel for you as you know just had fun with these people myself who again never gave bubblaboy the right hours or help or any SALT at all

i know there needs are different but we know the support they need

make sure you read that leaflet i sent you that was really good on telling you how it should be read

make sure all of 3 sounds clear to anyone not knowing him that they will read that and understand the severity of his needs

make sure when it says what they will be doing it says exactly not within range or concept like on mine where it tells you nothing at all

also if going to mainstream then it all needs to be set out on how hours will be set out who with if there trained ,how much SALT, ot, individual, group or class must say what

sn school
specific speech time
some non contact time unless the speech and language therapist is based within the school'
small classes
high staff to pupil ratio
staff who specialise teaching language disorders
24 hr curriculum for pupils who need it

so you need to really find out what school ds will go to as the asks are different for both schooling in terms of the statement

good luck im still waiting i sent it all back marked and highlighted with a long letter as they made his needs seem ok apparently his independent with dressing , his speech disorder is mild , socially its mild , no one to one or lunch help no settling in at school with anyone helping

god it drives you mad doesnt it the fact they put these crap statement out i wonder how many people actually think they sound good with there big words which mean nothing and agree to them

dp says this is what they rely on that few who accept as it saves them money and then the likes of us that had some kind of experience from others who went through there's with fine tooth comb

all you can do is go through reports and highlight all his problems
and again for what is needed such as full care, regular SALT etc
make a note or photo copy all reports first so you can doodle all over them i didnt lol
then you can write long lengthy letter going through what they say his needs are and what they have said in the provision is it clear will a stranger get your sons needs and will they understand how they are to help how long etc

if not then ask for it all to be written again thats what i have done with all the evidence and a letter

good luck i can keep you updated with what im told this end and please keep us updated

what a wonderful area we live in aye trying to fob us all off

bubblagirl · 23/05/2009 07:11

forgot go through section 2 also and add whats missing ds was danger awareness and SALT so ive asked this to be added

as nothing was stated on who would watch him in pe or trips out

make sure all the problems the reports state are in section 2
communication etc all his needs re read it and make sure there all there
sensitivities the lot as part 3 is based all round these

bubblagirl · 23/05/2009 07:24

also if anyone states full support add that on your highlighting as you can fight the hours straight away then i have several stating he will need one to one and full support and playground and lunch help surprise he got none of them so was told i could flag this straight away highlighting the statement reports where they have mentioned this

also check reports if anything is missing from professionals you can ask them to amend this
2 said how independent bubblaboy was with dressing funny enough the only 2 people that dont know him well ed pshych and specialist teacher everyone else states he needs help and they took the word of these 2

i should have said child's difficulties earlier not problems just couldn't remember right way of saying it

Phoenix4725 · 23/05/2009 07:30

yeah I am aiming for sn school and they do have own salt employed direct and the head is great ,when I saw him he was admant no child in his school will struggle because some pen pushers trying save a few pennies

yep 22 hrs sounds good and without advice on here I would ahave accepted it

Kids are all out tomorrow so will be going through it with my highlight pen

they idtenfied lots of areas he needs help in but itssowish wasy and they talk about class buddys support ., there 4 year olds bit early start them working

OP posts:
AttilaTheMeerkat · 23/05/2009 07:38

phoenix

As seen before none of the provision is quantified!.

I'd reject this out of hand and run it past IPSEA. You need to read them parts 2 and 3 verbatim.

SALT needs to be in part 2 as well.

bubblagirl · 23/05/2009 07:42

yeah such as sitting bubbla boy with well speaking 4 yr olds to help speech

he cant speak properly or communicate his need as his autistic no 4 yr old as far as i know is trained to deal with this lol

it says what colours to highlight
pink= problems
green = getting provision

the leaflets were really helpful with the step by step guide
took me a week in all to have highlighted and letter written found i could only do small amount every day as it was just mentally draining

good luck

poor bubblaboy has woken up throwing up today i have no idea whats caused it poor thing

bubblagirl · 23/05/2009 07:45

i've just thought it was really important that bubbla boys sleeping issues were mentioned in the statement as this can affect the amount of care given on day to day basis

also helped as we had team around the child meeting and sleeping issues were mentioned and it was asked if he could have repeat script so that problems do not reoccur with starting school so that was good as i was worried about them letting us have more and now its beena sked that he has more to keep his routine going

ok it doesn't keep him asleep but at least his going down at good time and you can give again after 4 hrs if i have a good supply i wont mind using more

bubblagirl · 26/05/2009 17:15

just wandered how your getting on with the dreaded statement?

Phoenix4725 · 26/05/2009 17:33

rewrite is in and have requested a meeting `so ball is in their court have you herd anything back yet.Do you know how long they have to get back to us?

OP posts:
bubblagirl · 26/05/2009 17:37

im not sure again i think its 15 days ive had letter to state they have received my letter and info so i'll have to wait now

i was hoping they would change without meeting as i supplied enough evidence to back myself up but we'll see

good luck with yours x

Phoenix4725 · 26/05/2009 17:44

went straight for meeting as i am aimimg for sn school and they insist on meeting first

OP posts:
Phoenix4725 · 26/05/2009 17:45

good luck wth yours , so nervous know got to get it right

OP posts:
bubblagirl · 26/05/2009 17:59

good luck yes meeting is relevant for sn school that isn't option for bubbla boy so thought id aim for trying to sort it out without i did tick for meeting but also put unless can be sorted without

it is scary as it all lies on our shoulders to cover everything and get it right but im sure it'll all come through in the end i hope

good luck we'll send each other good luck vibes not much time between ours so at least we can go through it together x

staryeyed · 27/05/2009 12:24

Pheonix did they state that your DS needs will be met in mainstrean school on draft statement?

Phoenix4725 · 27/05/2009 16:10

no they did not, only mentioned that he will need school where his needs can be met.

hmm can you check all the reports see what ep recomemded
